Very nice Hazy. If you need some help with the smoke test. (if you need an additional opinion) I am available as a smoke tester. :wave:

Great job.
Peace :ying:

Awesome grow, hazy!

I would like to thank you for how well you has documented with pics and data :tiphat: Not only a lot of pics taking your time to put "led" or "hps" on them, but excelent ones that allows to follow plants growth near as we were there seeing them.

If you finish it with your impression about taste and high of those plants, and if you notice any difference between those grown under LEDs and under HPS, no doubt, Ill vote this thread as best journal of the year

:thank you:

Hello hazy,dropped in to wish you,and all the good people reading this thread, a happy 4:20.Feels good to finish one huh?Especially a test grow side by side.Been busy working and staying baked,Best friend passed recently,kinda curtailed me smoking anything for a bit.Got a room with some ladies,flowering as I type.

Don't you listen to G2 up there,he is trying to muscle in on my action.He needs to come by and take clones of my girls.They call me the working man,I guess that's what I am.Looks like some good weight either way you look at it.Peace...and pot..

Thanks guys for all the great comments. I appreciate them all.:thank you:

HAPPY 420!
Sadly, I painted the ceiling and walls here at home instead of going to the best 420 party ever.

Testers:
OK, in a day or two final weights will be in and I'll prepare samples of both the Sour Diesel and Chem4, mark them and send them off.

I'll be using two testers. hashy1 and Outame.

The samples will be marked A and B. I will write down what's what and send that to a third party. Maybe Medi Scrogs, since he's been around this thread from the first, and seems interested. That way, noone can say I changed anything to skew the results. Then when O and H get their samples and report back, MS will already know what's what, and can reveal the key.

I'll ask O and H to put up a pic of the wares when they arrive, so all can see what they're judging.

My computer died today, and I'm using the wife's laptop. I HATE laptops. So, untill I get a new one or get it fixed, my updates on the next run might not be very regular.

this really did turn out great ... awsome thread there hazy !!!!

Indeed! Wonderful thread! Hope the computer issues work themselves out and yer back in action with us in no time. I know I cant wait to hear the final results and the testers responses! Wish I had someone lined up for testers in my grow between the two LED's that I'm using as one appears to be a bit frostier than the other...

good job this shows the true potential of leds. people forget just how much heat an hps can create and with led's the heat is so much lower you can fit far more plants in and not have to vent as often and save energy. not to mention making it alot easier to pump in co2 and much less of a fire hazard. lets hope led's improve even more.. maybe a 2 watt led is coming?

Well, using laptops suck imo, if for no other reason than the little mousepad thing. Sucks moving my finger back and forth trying to move the mouse around. Then on top of that, and even worse is that this computer has vista. What I really don't get is the fucking mouse. I have to very methodically move the pointer around, trying to avoid all links and buttons or they'll be activated by me hovering over them for too long. only takes a millisecond over a link and bam, off to that page, or pass over the new tab button and get 5 new tabs opened before i can move it some more.Try to expand a window and hover over the x by mistake and the window closes.

^^So i won't be posting anymore pics till i get a new computer. idk, maybe i just need a new power supply.

Final numbers in grams:

sugar shack
led~ 29.1 hps~ 34.2

chem4
led~ 27.3 hps~ 41.9

sour diesel
led~ 59.9 hps~ 70.4

+++++++++++++++++++++

As noted at the beginning of this thread, there were other plants under the lights, but they were not even close to equal size and were different strains, so were not a part of the comparison. So there weights will not be included. I only point this out in case anyone thinks either of these numbers is too low.
I'll be doing the next one for maximum yield for the light and space. Did a 420 flip for everything, then decided to not flip the ones going under the 400 and led till they're bigger. So right now the 400's off. Under the led is a big chem4 finishing that was under another light. That light's too low after the 420 flip. Also under the led is a big Sour Diesel that has 2-3 more weeks to go, but is also too tall. I tried it under the 400, but it's as high as it can go and still the buds were burning. Now it's a inch under the led and looking good.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Testers are vacuum packed and ready to go. O you can expect a little sumpin sumpin in the mail early next week, off to the po tomorrow. hashy1 yours is ready, come by and pick it up.

You'll get baggies marked SD-A and SD-B and C4-A and C4-B.
Just post your thoughts on each and when you do whoever I send the key to will reveal what they are. I'll send the key in a pm tonight.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Cool beans. I'll swing by this weekend sometime.

I'm sure you will get better with that led light with your next run under it. but hey i think that LED held it's own as far as weights. It is only useing half the watts. Wish i had a few myself would make cooling my boxes alot easier, and give me more head room. my Lights are like having a heater going in my room. if i turn the ac off room temp goes up to like 90+.

Not sure if Hazy's 400W is like my own, but these 400W HID's use quite a bit more power than 400W's. The power they draw varies by brand of bulb and ballast, but here's an example of a Sunlight Supply 400W setup with a Hortilux Blue bulb:

DSC03415.JPG

Here's our 205W LED Grow Light on that same power meter:

DSC03425.JPG

So anyhow if we use the numbers from above, a 400W HID draws about 517W of power, while our 205W LED draws only 182W. The only reason I'm showing this is simply so people can see the real power differences between these two lights, as I feel Hazy did a great job on the growing end! Anyhow, 182 x 3 = 546W. Needless to say you'd need almost 3 of our 205W panels to match the power consumption of a single 400W HID. The actual power consumption difference for the LED is 65% less, while the posted yield difference from Hazy (116.3g LED vs 146.4 HPS) was only 20% in favor of the HID. I have zero doubts that with a bit more experience using LED, that Hazy will be able to beat his 400W HPS using it. Hopefully for the next grow each set of plants will have the opportunity to veg under each light like Blaze is doing ;)

Hazy: Would you mind posting the final gram numbers for all the plants under the LED side when you're done? Even though they are not a part of the comparison, I'm sure there are a few people out there like myself who would like to know what your overall gram per watt yield was with LED your first time. :)

i am with you led girl....looks like led IS THE NEXT GENERATION and i would love to grow with leds....but my 400w hsp + 600w hps needs only 913w(just checked it again because i was wondering)!! i also know the new ones need more w!!

sounds like that reading is inaccurate or those lamps aren't using the amount of power they say they are. normally, the lamp power AND the ballast power factor are factored into it.

Hazy, sorry not online much here lately. I would be happy to help with the keys but I am going offline in a few days and probably won't be around too much. You'll do better to grab someone else here that can be online for sure. I'm busy moving out here, I have a new job lined up for myself and I'm changing location, and probably won't be around online for awhile.

It's been fun watching how well these lights do--thanks again for all your hard work and great photography. It's been interesting to note that the led might be producing better quality nugs, I'll definitely find a way to check back at some point and see what the testers think of their samples. Cool stuff. Good luck with your next run and stay cool, I'll look forward to dropping in again sometime when my situation permits. ...til then, keep it green...

Kind Regards. :tiphat:
