Size of pot for each stage

I wanted to see what people think about pot size for different stages.

Here is my system:

Clone in rapid rooters, then move to 20 oz cup.
Once roots established move to 3 gal grow bag in Veg.
1 week before moving to Bloom, transfer to 7 gal grow bag.

I move to bloom when 3 ft tall on average. Going under 1K lights.

So what you think?

I don't know if 1 week is really enough time in veg to take advantage of the 3gal to 7gal transfer...

The plants only grow roots for a couple of weeks into flower...

how many 7 gallons do you get under a 1k?

is this a 1 plant grow?

also on the veg and transplant

do you find it beneficial to need a 7 gallon? Do you have any shots of the root mass of the 7 gal grow bags after a grow was finished?

sounds like huge ass containers for indoors but then again you sound like you are trying to grow trees and I am a bush sort of guy.

3 ft going into bloom and they finish at? 6-8 ft? do you train them, are we talking scrog?

how long will plants be in 3 gal grow bags ???

but most important how many watts used during veg

my clones when rooted go into 3x3 squares flowers used to be in, i bought a flat of 15 outdoor flowers planted them and then use the containers. clones can stay in there little as 10-12 days then i transplant upto 2 liter soda bottle. again if i choose in little as 10-12 days i can transplant upto 1 gal bags where i flower, i prefer the plants be in the bags min 11 days to get a good yield. i veg under cfls . i have to agree with whats been said about 3 gal to 7 gal and 1 wk later flowering, wouldnt be a good idea the plants roots needs to colonize the soil. 1 wk isnt enough time youd most likely wind up with alot of stretch, you have the right idea to build a rootmass but 20 oz cup into 3 gal will take time to colonize same for 3gal to 7 gal. if the roots havent properly colonized the soil when you start flowering acess stretch can and most likely will be the result of not enough time in the container

what strain are you doing this with

is it from clone or seed

you do realize indicas can stretch 2-3 times size they where when flowered {ie} 1 ft tall plant when flowered can reach 3-4 ft when finished

sativas can stretch 3-5 times size

Good idea for a thread. for me it's -

RR > 1gal pots > 3 gal bags for remainder of lifespan

400w cmh with supplemental fluoros for veg, 1000w hps for flower with ~1.5-2wks veg

for me it's clone in 5 oz cups with straight coco, then it's a 5" sq pot under a 300W cfl while waiting for the current crop to finish, then 1 gallon pots for a week or two under the 1K, then into 4 gallon nursery pots for indicas/hybrids or 5 gallon buckets for sativas, and flip the lights.

my plants are just barely rootbound when finished,.....indicas/hybrids are 3ft tall, sativas are a little taller, maybe 4ft when finished.

I noticed some strains grow roots way into flowering, like blue dreams, and chocolope, those go into #7 (about 6 gallons) nursery pots

I can fit 12 of those under my 1K with a mover, but I usually run 9 of one strain, and the other 3 spaces get variety crops or yield experiments.

if you do require a 7 gallon bag i would just skip the 3 gal and plant right into the 7 from a the 20 oz cup. this would give roots a chance to establish throughout the large bag before flowering when root growth is limited.

i clone in rapid rooters then in to beer cups for 3-4 weeks, then i flower in 3 gal....

if i have time and room i transplant the cups to 1gal, then 5gal to finish....

i like vegging in 1gal and bush them out and flower in 5gal i get good yields that way.i also mix flowering soil alittle different less n just cause you dont really need it in flowering...

Don't do this...

7gal iz way too big for what most growers would need, some growers need and do well with 7gal cause they have 1000watters and veg a long time to get big trees, but under no circumstances would anybody benefit from going 20 oz cup to 7 gal.

It's not the size it's how ya use it...

Unless you are going for MONSTERS I'd say stick with a 3 or 5 gal grow bag and plant straight from the cups to those. You'll still get some good yields and Im guessing the root mass will be almost the same when harvested

to the original poster of the question {MoJo}

what strain are you doing this with

is it from clone or seed

what wattage used in veg and flower

i run average 240w cfls in veg 1k hps in air cooled hood for flower

I clone with rapid rooters, replant into 4" pots under compact fluorescents, got to 6" pots for 1/2 of veg, 9"pots for the rest of veg and 3 Gal pots for bloom. I'm thinking of switching to 4 gal pots for bloom but I'm limited by space and this system has worked real well.

When clones have rooted out a beer cup I used to go into #'1 then flower. now I go beer cup --> 5 gallon ----> 10 gallon

2 months with super cropping I have a shrub that's rooted out a 10 gal..... 3 months root out a 15 gal.... and I have to flower.......

I can also go from beer cup to 10 gallon it's just trickier to water.... have to make sure you only water around it like it's still a 1 gal plant..... otherwise it'll sit there for 2 weeks soaking wet.

Thanks for the reply's.

Here is the data requested.

My strains are White Widow, White Rhino, Sour D, LA Confidential, Sweet Tooth and MK Ultra. I'm a caregiver here in CO.

Clones are under a 125W CFL, Veg under 400 W MH, Then Flower under 3K on light movers.

I have a number I need to stick to so I like to grow them big.
