Help building a bed

I am thinking of building a raised bed with 2 x 600w lights. I have a few questions if anyone can offer their opinion. I plan to make the bed around 10-12 inches deep but I haven't decided on the length and width and orientation of the lights. Ideally the lights would go in a line (- -) and the bed would be around 3 - 4 feet wide. Also I have Closed end reflectors or open ended. Please feel free to add your opinion to the questions below and any other relevant knowledge....

I plan to put around 80 plants that are about 6 inches tall rooted in small plastic cups in and flip the switch almost strasight away.

1. How wid/long would you make the bed

2. How deep

3. How many plants would you use in the space

4. How far would you space the 2 600w lights apart (remember lights are - - not | |)

Thanks IC !!!

between 3 to 4 ft wide and 6 to 7 ft long. 600 works good on a 3x3 area. alot depends on your hoods light pattern. check it. also are you designing it so the bed can be accesed on both sides? after 3 ft it gets hard to maintain them unless you got real long arms.

Yep for two 600's don't bother making it bigger than 3X6, you don't have enough light to illuminate more properly. It will require 9 2cf bags of soil to fill that bed to 12" deep.

Why beds? They're a bitch to empty, you can't move or rotate plants, and it requires more soil than you would use with pots. Just doesn't make sense in my book but to each his own I guess.

well ^^^^ for me the thought was reusing the bed several times. just pull one out add some goodies and replant. i liked a slight veg then flower alowing for a larger rootmass than typical sog. i gave it up after4 runs. worked good tho no complaints. i dont know how well it would work with chems as i used organic

Hi LM, love your room bro it's tech heaven. I much prefer a simple approach though plus I have better ambient conditions here. All my water comes out of the tap (at 6.2), my temp is easily managed with just an 8" rvk inline outlet and a 5" rvk inline inlet, humid/dehumid for a 6 x 600w room (and a heater). I hand water everything!!

This is just a test. I already have a 54 x 2 gal pot room and a 60 14litre bucket room - I'm just running in my organic legs.

Was gonna go SOG as I have a shed load of Violator Kush and Powerplants in cups ready to go and no space for em. It's only the one bed in the one small room so it will be easy to manage. I don't need to get round it I have long arms :D ! It also means I can try out a few automated irrigation setups (starting with the blumat)

Thanks for the advice tho and anymore advice on the beds would be wicked. Also I have like 15 bags of soil kicking about as I am using VerdantGreen's soil mix now!!

Safety!!
