How can I respect people who blame the world around them for being bad parents?

I kinda got into this because so many people are against marijuana legalization "for the children". I can't help but feel like they knew what the world was like before they had children, and there's a lot of parents out there that do well enough despite the world being what it is. Maybe their kids end up hating them because they're.... well I won't say it but you can feel free to insert whatever word you want.

you don't!!!

we had a member here that came into the Den & bitched that the cell phone & internet he allows his 11 yr old to use unsupervised is causing issues.

It seemed he was wondering how to get OTHERS to modify their behavior (messages to his daughter) instead taking responsibility of it himself and taking the privileges away from his kid. he was sitting there blaming other folks for what was so obviously his own fault, his kids fault, and lousy parenting that he was too blind to see.......

example:
I explained to him that my parents wanted to know WHOEVER was calling me when I was 11 yrs old, he in turn said he "didn't want to be bothered with her phone calls."

I explained it was this attitude was of a parent that just didn't care.......

Bah end of rant. I can't stand jackasses who have to blame something or someone else for why they think the world is fucked up.

As much as I agree with you on the link regarding that Yamaha fellow. Ultimately kids become adults and one has to assume that people come to a point in their lives when they can make independent judgements by themselves, thus mature and become adults. Yes, one can blame parents for being douches and stuff but not for the world being bad. Kids ain't in politics, media. They are just shit people spend money on to support until they find their own feet. They're just hanging around streetcorners or in cyberspace making a nuisance of themselves sometimes.

these people also think their children are special compared to others. who cares what they think their kids are an excuse to not work to much, plus in the end it's their kids they blame for not having all the luxuries they desire.
these peeps are fuked

11 yr olds don't mature into adults though & as mentioned he clearly states that he "can't be bothered" answering the phone for incoming calls to his daughter.

A kid does need a computer to do school work even in the privacy of their own bedroom but w/out net access, net access (based on age) can be restricted to logging online in the living room where it can be observed from time to time. when a parent is sure the child knows his/her boundaries it would then be time to allow them their privacy.

Do you toss the car keys at your kid when they turn 16? No. same stuff here, the net is a dangerous place to be w/out having the proper supervision first.

He gave her these adult tools @ only 11 yrs old, so now I have to wonder what "independent judgments" his little baby 9/10 yr old exhibited in order for him to determine she was ready? none imo, except for maybe being able to pick out her favorite candy. It was done (as he admits) for his own convenience.

An 11 yr old allowed to talk to whoever she wants to w/out her dad checking up on who's calling. That is the entire recipe for disaster, the newsworthy kinda disaster no less. An 11yr olds brain is not able to assess dangers as we adults can and do, they are still considered innocent @ that age.

he was trying to blame another parent for what was happening in his own home w/tools he freely gave his daughter.......

and hey, I'm not here to dig up the dirt on Yamaha again either,
as the OP stated blaming others seems to be the way these days.

my own recent thread "R.I.P. Ronald McDonald?" R.I.P. Ronald thread
is a perfect example of others trying to cast the blame for child obesity

I hate that as parents we let these things, tv, videos, video games, texting, computer be what raise the child(ren). what ever happened to reading a book? oh yeah, they make a lot of those up from SHIT now a day too. if you care about your child, try to monopolize as much of their time as you can. PERSONALLY! don't let any type of media take that from you. that's your child. leave your impression first and formost, in his/her heart-mind and above all, make it a good one.

that being said: there is an agenda for your child's mind so if you dont have one for them, ie; if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

well I hate to say it but i have always had unsupervised access to the internet from the days of dial and an age of 9 years old. I turned 16 passed my drivers exam and bought a car all with in the week. back when I was young the pedophiles were only in the catholic church. Now they troll the net looking for victims. Society has drastically changed in the last 20 years.

I hope it becomes legal across the board. If you can't make a living anymore growing pot, here's a novel idea...get a freakin job like the rest of us. The only people against legalization as far as I can see are super conservative right wingers and current grower/dealers. I say if it means the rest of us smokers/patients can light up without worry of jail time...good. It's kinda hard to feel sorry for someone who's whinning that legalization will end their easy money. When you care less about sick people going to prison for weed than you care about your fast cash, you're being selfish and should check your priorities. JMO

This is sarcasim, or your view?

Unfortunately it is the view of too many and the core of the barrier between generations.

Too many parents don't have time to talk with and Listen to their children. They just don't try to understand from the childs pov.

This is how it is and that's it...

Back when i was your age we, blah blah blah

I'm lucky to have a teenager child who considers me a friend and knows i will listen to what ever she has to say w/o judging her. She knows if i disagree i will tell her so and do my best to explain why. I point her in a direction rather than push.

Having this bond with my child is the most Gratifying thing in my life. Last week i went out with her friends, we Danced Together, man was that powerful.

I have no relation with my parents coz they never cared how i felt, it was their way, or the highway.

Nothin compares to that Bond we have...

We make our own Realities, i don't understand why so many wanna revel in turmoil???

Then blame it on others???

It's all there, Good & bad, what do you want???

he can speak for himself but i dont think he is against patients getting meds safely but merely recognizing the fact that anything governments or corporations touch turns to shit. look at cigarettes, how simple is smoking a tobacco leaf, look what they turned it into, the chemical laden cancerous stick billion dollar industry. there is no good solution in our current system

p.s. i dont want no job

Here's a thought:

Legalize weed! Not only that, fucking burn down the goddamned Federal Reserve building, ditch the system, put an end to corporatism, put an end to monopolies. people will always make money growing good weed. people are lazy pieces of shit. not everyone whoe smokes dope is going to go to the trouble of growing it, even if it were legal. otherwise there'd be fuckin dope everywhere as it is. and i mean EVERYWHERE

If you don't think it's easy money, you must have never done anything else. LOL JK
I did construction for years when I was younger. That was work that was hard. Watering plants, trimming and curing isn't hard by any stretch...it's tedious at worst, but hard? Come on...now lugging bags of soil or water to a clandestine site....that's some hard work granted, but indoor growing? Please. The fact is you can make in one run in a couple of dialed in 10X10 rooms what an average person makes in a year...you don't call that easy money?
I'm not saying it doesn't take intelligence, skill, and patience. It does. It can also be stressful as hell but if given the choice between growing or manual labor....what would you pick? LOL
