Suspected Magnesium Deficiency

Well, like the title says...as mentioned in the report I filled out below, I figure it's the filtered water?

----

How long has this problem been going on?
About one week.

Are you growing in a PVC grow tent? (example: Hydrohut or any other non brand tents)
No.

What system are you running? (DWC? Ebb flow? Aero? Water Farm? Flood Tables? and so on...)
2 gallon pots of 100% Botanicare Coco Coir, hand watered to waste.

What STRAIN are you growing?
Headband, Chemdawg, Sour Diesel, OG Kush, Lemon Skunk, Island Sweet Skunk.

What was the establishing technique? (Were the seed or clone?)
Clones, from a vendor.

What is the age of your plants?
Don't know.

How long have they been in there mixture they are in now?(coco, soiless etc..)
The clones were planted in coco 13 days ago (4/8/10).

How tall are the plants?
About 4 - 6 inches.

What PHASE are the plants in? (seedling, vegetative or flower) are the plants in?
Vegetative.

What Technique are you using?
Coco coir hand watered to waste.

What substrate/medium are you using?(Hydroton, RockWool etc.)
100% pure Botanicare Coco.

What is the Water temperature?
About 76F (It is usually allowed to sit in the room with the plants for 12 - 24 hours before watering).

What color are your roots? White? Brown? Are your roots slimy?
Haven't checked or wanted to disturb them up to this point...

What Nutrient's are you using?(If growing soiless)
Canna Coco A+B. Was using a tiny bit (1/4 tsp/gallon) of Age Old Organics Kelp Extract for the first week.

How much of each nutrient are you using with how much water? *Knowing the brand is very helpful*
1.3 - 2 mL/liter (1 - 1.5 tsp/gallon) of the Canna A+B.

How often are you feeding? (If using soiless)
Started once daily, recently backed off to every 36 hours.

How often are you giving nutrients? (If using soiless)
Every watering.

If flowering, when did you switch over to using Bloom nutrients?
N/A.

What order are you mixing your nutrients? (example: veg nutes 1st, bloom 2nd ect)
Just the A first, thoroughly mixed, followed by the B.

What is the TDS/EC/PPM you are using?
I do not currently have an EC meter.

What is the pH of the "Tank"?
According to my pH papers, my nutrient solution is around 6.

Are you sure your calibration is correct on your equiptment?
pH papers are only so accurate, I suppose...

When was your last watering?
Yesterday morning (4/20).

What is your water temps?
~76F.

When was your last feeding change? (ie. grow-bloom-micro-additional)
I gradually upped the dose to 2mL/liter (from 1.3 mL/liter) over the last week.

How often do you clean your system: example: Flush out water replace with clean water and nutrients?
I hand water to about 25% waste every day.

What size bulb are you using?
400 watt metal halide, hung bare bulb in the center of the plants.

What is the distance to the canopy?
16 inches.

What is your RH Factor(Relative Humidity)?
Not certain, usually quite low (<20%).

What is the canopy temperature?
~74 - 80F.

What is the Day/Night Temp? (Include flucutaion range)
~72 - 82F.

What is the current Air Flow? (cfm etc.)
N/A?

Tell us about your ventilation, intake exhaust and when its running and not running ?
Small walk-in closet with two 20-inch box fans (one at door, one on plants) and a 6 inch inline duct fan pointed upward at the open bulb. Closet door is directly beside central air intake.

Is the fan blowing directly at plants?
One of the box fans is, yes.

Is your water HARD or SOFT?
I have no meter, but the water report for my treatment plant claims an average EC of 0.3 (range 0.25 - 0.32).

What water are you using? Reverse Osmosis (RO)? Tap? Bottled? Well water? Distilled? Mineral Water?
I started out using Brita-filtered tap water. Once I realized Canna Coco nutes are meant to be used with "tap" water, I began using a mixture of the Brita-filtered and plain tap. I may just use pure tap water from this point, since I'm worried it's Mag deficiency.

Are you using water from a water softener?
No.

Has plant been recently pruned, cloned off of or pinched
I trimmed some of the older/lower leaves which were infested with spider mites.

Have any pest chemicals been used? If so, What and When?
Azamax @ 15 mL/gallon in their water on Saturday (4/17), and 20 mL/gallon via foliar spray on Monday (4/19).

Are plant's infected with pest's?
Yes, spider mites. I plan to use more Azamax at weekly intervals until they're (hopefully) gone. I think I caught them early.

I have some Bio-Genesis Mineral Matrix micro-nute supplement on hand.

Maybe adding some of this at the 1 - 3 drop/gallon rate would help?

Either way, here's the plants:

They do look a little pale, what i would do is try giving them a cal/mag supplement and see if it worked out, afterall used in a moderate ammount it cant really hurt. And if that didnt help i would increase nute usage gently.

What is the ph of the runoff?

I just watered them (2 mL/liter Canna A+B, 25mg ascorbic acid, and 3 drops Mineral Matrix). The runoff pH seems to pretty consistently be ~5.8 - 6 (I'm using wide range pH paper, so it's hard to tell for sure...it's definitely between 5 and 6, but closer to 6.). So little if any change from that going in. That's a good sign at least that it's not pH-related lockout. I'm hoping the combination of unfiltered tap + mineral matrix will do the trick.

I personally use Technaflora's MagiCal which is the same as Cal/mag. @ 5ml/gallon every feeding. And that's with my tap water. My tap doesn't have the sufficient amount the plants need. I also was running my ph at 5.8 but now I gave it a slight bump to 6 and everything is going better.

Does look like Mag Def.

I hit 'em with some more of the mineral matrix, plus a little bit of molasses and kelp extract. Thanks for the confirmation guys! I'll let you know how they do...
