Container Vs Planting in the ground?

At the location I am going to be planting at the soil is not of the best quality.
Therefor I am planning on using my own soil but am wondering which option would be better
Putting the soil into some type of container (smart pots or otherwise)
or
digging a large hole for each plant then filling with my soil.

Which would be the better option?

in a container or pot...your plant will dry out twice as fast...

plant directly in the ground..much less work needed to keep them healthy

dig a nice size hole, add soil amendments(dolomite lime, perlite, compost and so on) and plant...

good luck

I'll be Off to see the Guerilla's too, I have got SwissCheese, Blackberry, Sweetpurple, Automatic(BigBuddha), Automaria, Mi5 & Onyx, BigDevil. '& Some EasyRider on the way hopefully, they are all going out lol. G'Luck with your projects man, i bet the Sour60 does you proud, get the Shovels & Rucksacks at the ready dude..& maybe consider using good drainage in the bottom of your holes, 'i'll probably end up using some pea gravel or something similar.
Peace.....Scroger.! ;?)

hmm ya drainage would definetly be smart. Im kind of in a almost boggy area too so we'll see how wet things to get once I start digging down

As for the original question

As for the original question

Planting directly in the ground is definitely the best, IMO.
Growing in containers offer additional stealth, as you can easily
move the plants to a new location should an emergency arise,
or if security become breeched, but requires it much more attention.
:2cents:
Some people prefer to grow in containers, and it does offer some
advantages, but I prefer transplanting starts directly into the ground.

I prefer planting in the ground, containers always get too hot, dry out and the roots fry in a heat wave. In the ground the plant can put a big taproot waaaay down and become very stable and strong, resisting drought or heavy winds easily.
I'm off to dig some holes this morning, have a good one!

Hi,
if you're in a wet or boggy spot, just overfill the hole a bit with your amended soil mix so that you have a mound. Your plants will really love that.

I'm going to transplant my clones into a little grove of trees with pretty good dark soil. How much lime, perlite, and compost should each hole about get?

got gophers? if so, make sure you line the hole with a cage...or just stick a smartpot in the hole. They are completely gopher/vole proof.

my one friend who grows in a topsoil/compost mix from the local greenwaste spot uses 50:50 perlite:compost. Compost is generally very heavy.
