hey all! i'm thinking of buying an indoor grow tent like this one (http://www.aussieponics.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=53) 2m x 2m x 2m and hooking up all the kit with it (lighting, vent, hydro set up etc) any recommendations with respect to how much lighting i'd need to use to get a great scrog going in it? i've currently got a shit load of 20w cfls as well as a 400w dual spectrum HPS system i can use, will that be enough or should i grab another 400-600 watt to fit in there?

also is there any way of dividing a tent like this down the middle and partition it off so i can have a flowering side and vegetation side or would that be a bit to much of a pain and probs better to use two separate tents? anyway any advice/tips would be great guys cheers

darwin!

id get two 600s in there. have a ba ass scrog, or if not in the budget get one 600 watter do hps in that, throw a metal halide in the 400 watter. you get some nice fat nugs in a very even nice canpoy.

yeah i was talking to a guy today about CMH bulbs and how epic their spectrum coverage is, smashes even the dual spec HPS i have, so i'm thinking i'd buy a CMH bulb to put in the 400w set up, is that ok? will the ballast etc be the same and not have any issues running a CMH instead of an HPS? and can i use any bulb for any country (are they the same for everywhere or do i need an aus specific model). cheers mate

i know you need to have a switchable ballast two do metal halide, i misunderstood your op and thought by dual spectrum you meant both mh and hps, sorry. if its in the budget why not get twoo 600s in there and really have some serious lighting. you would be at 100 w/sf and your scrog would be really serious. if not just get one and have the 400 and the 600. and your bulbs are going to be the same no matter what country your in, luckily they are all the same. quick question, are you going to be doing individual screens over each plant, or one big one for the whole area? good luck with everything

yeah i mean with the bulbs can i buy bulbs from the US and screw them into lamp holders here in Aus? they all the same screw in type? we've also got bayonet types here too for house lighting which i'm not sure you guys have in the US so just wondering. umm yeah in the end i'm not phased i'll probably lash out for a decent 600w CMH then as they've an incredible spectrum coverage, and might try and get another 600w HPS if i can sell my 400w one to someone, if not i might just have to wait a while and put the 400w a little closer to the plants to try and still get the 100w/sf. thanks for the advice mate. umm and yeah i'm sill unsure as what the best method is with screens, but i'd probably just get one big screen and have it over all the plants than bother with single ones, unless there's a benefit of doing it with singles? also is it easy/doable to split grow tents in half (divide them) so that i could have flowering on one side and veg on the other or would it be best to just get another tent, and leave them with as much space as possible with the 600w lights so they can not heat up too much. cheers

Whats up darwin!

Dude I just got a 400w CMH bulb, they run in your HPS ballast no worries as long as its not digital, got it from a grow shop in oz. I was also convinced to give em a shot due to there spectrum....we'll see how they stack up against my last HPS run.

How much do you want for your HPS?

hey mrgrowmez, what's going on!? haha ummm sweeeet ballast isn't digital so i'll have to purchase a CMH globe or two then as well as a few hps when i get around to it so i can use them during seed/veg and then switch to hps during flowering stage. tits! how much they run you for? $40-50 each? ummm i dunno if i'll sell it just yet, it's still sitting in it's box (only got it last week). so i'll just suss out how things go when i move out and how much room i have or whether i'll need it elsewhere. but yeah if you're after one should i need to get rid of it in the future i'll let you know mate!. cheers for the advice

4 x 600W HPS in that space: that's 54 Watts HPS per square foot, which is ideal.

Anything less and you're cheating yourself out of a decent harvest.

- Use air cooled lighting or a big fan to extract the heat.

how do you get 54 watts per foot out of a 2 meter square footprint with 2400 watts? or did i mess up the numbers?

i think he's right, if this is how you calculate it. if i had 4 x 600w lights in a 2m^2 area isn't that just 2400watts/4m, so 600watts per metre? or 6.5ft^2, 2400w/42.25ft is 56w/ft.

2m = 6.66 ft

Area = 6.66 x 6.66 = 44.35 sq. ft.

Watts = 2400

2400/44.35 = 54.11 W/sq.ft

if i were to be running 4x600w bulbs in 2x2m area, what amount of ventilation would i need and which form of lights would you recommend guys?

Hi man,

It depends on your ambient temps, but running air-cooled lights would be better, and total extract of air at a minimum of 1200m3/hr, eg. 600 on the lights and 600 in the room with a filter.

I would go bigger to accomodate summer months, and control them with speed controllers - i.e. get 1000m3/hr fan for the lights and 1000m3/hr fan for the room, and set room on thermostat at desired temp.

Peace
