Commercial drying/curing ?

If I want to put the best product out there that I can, as well as put it on the market as soon as possible. Do I need to find a pheno that smokes well just being dried? Or, is there a trick to it? Mason jars are cool when your rock'n a 400w, but how do you put out a quality product with multi kw grows.

What I am working with right now is awsome after 1-2month cure in jars, but right after drying smells like hay and is very harsh. The high grade commercial stuff around here tastes great and smokes smooth. I know these guys arent curing for months. What is the secret? Is it in the genetics?

Trying to plan ahead for hard times, and while I know people will buy anything that looks good, this is not my goal.

lol, like the first post, very informative. If you were gonna cure maybe you could do it effectively, with a hygrometer(sp?) saw some post on here in the harvesting subfoum, quite interesting check it out. i'm sure this doesn't really answer your question but it may help in it's own little way. ^^

A pheno wth a significant production of terpenes and a strong smell really helps, Also, i find large amounts of bud easier to cure than a small amount.

large plastic buckets or pound ziplock bags work great for curing.

I let my bud dry untill its wet on the inside and crispy on the outside, then put it in an air tight bag or bucket. by the time its in the hands of customers the moisture has leveled out and the smell is very strong.

Never let your bud dry out fully, and never let it dry too fast. the key to a good smell is moisture and time.

If you have a bulk food store you can find giant jars of pickles for ~$2-3 dollars. After running it through a dishwasher its a big clean jar. They can hold lots of bud. Walmart may sell them too...

Educated guess: I'd say the first and fifth reply were the best. Poly 5 gallon buckets are an investment that will NEVER hurt investment wise. Just follow one of the high times golden rules: Don't be buying your 50 buckets and growing medium at the same place. ;)

The dope growing busts i've seen on the net; all dry with drying racks (wood & screen) after they've been trimmed, no idea how they cure 'em. I'm sure they use poly buckets.

1gallon jars of saurkraut @ costco... 1/4 lb in each jar with room for more, but the added space helps.

as the 1st reply stated new 5 gallon buckets are the best. well sealed and imho they are the best. I've used them since 1988 when I did my first 9lb comersh Skunk1 run, plus the buckets are easy to stash away. They can be stacked on top of each other in a closet while curing. no glass breaking or the weight of giant glass jars when it comes to 10lbs+ Dank Nugz

I couldn't see why not. They're made of high grade PVC, the same type of poly that moves potable water in huge office buildings. And the number one pipe used in commercial hydro grows.
(either pvc or abs can be used)

tHE Asians trim it throw it ina pile and hang a few 1ks over the pile to make it speed dry~ there beasters. Most the oldschool guys i know from the boldt........hang there plants and once dry they throw them in big ol trash bags to cure and trim um when they need it !! first they take off all the sunleaves before hanging :dance013:

Always secure yourself in the tree, last thing you'd want is for one of those few times when you twitch in your life, to knock you out of the tree.

Could I get you to define: '1ks'? jack DA reaper.

I use giant rubbermaid tubs, an 18 gallon holds about 5 pounds with room for tossing and air. Never fill the containers completely!
