PC grow box 75watts CFL - Little help/tips/clues/opinions needed!

Hey guys.

It is my first project, so I am totally newbie.
Firstly, I would say I am glad being between the greatest experts in micro growing.

My first PC grow case isnt totally finished and b4 starting to germinate a seed (Im planning to buy in a local store this week) I would like receiving some tips and clues from the experts.

Here is a brief abt my project:

- Mid tower pc case (17' H x 17' W x 9' L)
- 3 8mm "generic" fans 0.25A (I couldnt find so much information abt them, but I think it is around 40 CFM).
- Windshield sun reflection
- Power strip + plug in socket adapter
- CFL Lamps 26watts for veg and flowering.
- Velcro
- etc (hot glue gun, tapes, wires, timer, thermometer)

Below, you guys can see a image of my first project release.



I am planning to use LST and not sure abt the strain but Im thinking about lowryder #2, coz I have a short cabinet. In my first attempt, I will grow just 1 plant (I think lights are enough, or should I upgrade to 100watts?). 18/6 veg and 12/12 flowering.

I've run some tests and it looks light-proof. Good.
I've also run some tests in order to have some overview about the temperature and what I've seen I aint like. The temperature inside was around 85o F. Pretty hot I guess.

So here a have my first question: Do u think I should use 2 intake 8mm fans 40CFM + 1 exhaust 12mm fan 80CFM or remain using 1 intake 8mm + 2 exhaust 8mm??

I also plan to add some carbon filter in the fans. Stealth isn't a big concern for me (I live with my wife), but anyway I wanna to control the odor a bit. My strategy for now is using ONA odor control + carbon filters.

Also, I would be glad to receive some tips abt the soil and nutrients/ferts. I would like to have good stuff without blowing up my budget. So I would appreciate some cheap/average stuffs.
I need to use ferts/nutrients just in flowering stage or in veg as well? Pretty confused abt this subject....

As soon I get strain/soil/ferts I will create a journal. So as fellas may follow this. Hope u guys like it.

On seeds, go 4 whatever is cheapest of easiest, as you´ll learn tons of stuff going along. Your 1st grow is never a good one, but the things you learn as you go along are priceless!!

I started out with seeds, 20 $/10. I did a few things right and a lot of things wrong, but I had already anticipated that, hence the Cheap´o seeds.
Now I feel like I´m getting the hang of it, I bought some Skunk #1 from sensi and some Pure Afghan, DNA genetics.
If I have any success with these, I´ll have 4 diff mothers, and I will move on to First Lady, Sensi.
I would have hated myself if I screwed up with them xpensiv seeds.

As for soil, do avoid the cheapest stuff. It´s prolly not sterilized and can get you bugs, mold and whatnot.
My :twocents: Buy good soil and nutes, easy/cheap seeds, read through this site :)smile:) and then just Go For It !

Indeed, I will try to find a cheap seed this week in some local store (although Im brazil420 I live in ontario lol). I think I need going with feminized seeds, once I dont have experience cloning these stuffs :S

I also will try to find a good soil in the same store. Nutrients and fertz as well (any suggestion?)

My mainly concern rite now is the temperature inside the case. Im almost convicted I need to turn 1 12mm exhaust and 2 8mm intake.

85f is far warmer than i would expect. try having just 1 intake and 1 exhaust. the 2nd exhaust fan you have halfway up the case, turn it off. then see what temperature is like after.
light or air filters on the intake or exhaust fans will cause a restriction and mess up temperatures as well.

try experimenting with a 12cm fan for exhaust and a single 80cm intake, it might be what you need, or try with 2 intakes.

from my experience, a single 80cm exhaust (with no filter or restrictions) and a passive or a slower running intake is more than enough for 100w of cfl. this is why i am surprised by your temps.

Yes, pretty confused abt these temps issues.

I think I will take a 12cm fan and see what happens.

Also, Im thinking abt different approaches...What do u guys think is best?

- 1 Fan intake 8cm + 1 Fan exhaust 8cm
- 2 Fan intake 8cm (I will turn the halfway outlet in a intake) + 1 Fan exhaust 12cm
- 1 Fan intake 8cm + 2 Fan exhaust 8cm "inline" (on the top case).

i dont think lowryder is a gud choice if you want to lst, as it basicaly goes straight into flowering.

about fans you want more exhaust than intake so 2 for exhaust and 1 for intake wud be best.

this is another well built PC case, great ventillation, i think you could even fit some more bulbs, vertically, along the exhaust side, one or two, for some side lighting.
