BREEDING QUESTIONS

hey all, i'm thinking of ordering a mixed set of seeds off the net, getting males and females and fertilizing the females and then getting as many seeds as possible so that i can germinate and grow these all up to start breeding. obviously i'd start selecting for traits i wanted (i'm sure you guys know the deal so i won't rabbit on).

anyone, just wondering if any of you guys know of strains that're better to start with when wanting to breed/create your own strain. are there better types to cross initially if i got 2 strains and crossed the males and females of each, or just get 1 strain and uses both males and females from that etc. anyway let me know any tips you've got for getting started. cheers for your time

if you want to go with something your own start with landrace or ibl (inbred line) strains. For instance Ace has a ton of great breeding stock to choose from.

thanks for that mate. i'm also wondering can you use these plants after they've made seed/pollen. can you take them out of the flowering cycle and put them back in veg, maybe prune them back a bit, then chuck them back into flowering again and use for bud or breeding again? if so how long do you need to put them back in veg for etc? cheers

BUYING TRUE BREEDING/STABILIZED STRAINS??

BUYING TRUE BREEDING/STABILIZED STRAINS??

hey all, anyone know if you can buy any true breeding/stabilized strains over the net anywhere? i know they're highly protected by individuals who create them as they don't want any fool taking all their hardwork and then creating hybrids to sell seeds over the net with rah rah rah, i'm guessing this is a stupid question and will be responded with by FUCK NO from everyone, but yeah as an interested breeder prospect i'm just wondering if it is possible to be able to get your hands on true breeding strains so you can create your own hybrids at home etc, while playing with other unstable strains etc. though if it were easy i'm guessing most seed companies would lose business. anyway thanks for your time legends and legendettes!

i'm thinking the only real way to get your hands on them is to sleep with a seed company owner or spend your own time and hard work making your own from scratch.

Just get seeds from somewhere that you like and cross em...then grow em out and take a male and female that have the traits you want and cross em & grow em out again, then keep doing it til you get a stabilized cross...you should start with something decent, go to attitude and order something....I want to cross autos...I am hoping to cross my 1024 with an auto, since it has such a high THC level, selecting a good strong suto will be equally important...

how good are the auto flowering ones out there though? are they as decent as seasonal plants or are the inherent issues with them? i heard rumours about that from someone (who probably isn't in the know) so correct me if i'm worried for no reason. but yeah that's what i'm thinking, i don't wanna get busted with 1000 seedlings sorta thing because in aus that would lead to serious SERIOUS jail time. FUCK THAT. but i'm thinking if i grow up a few plants for a while and select for the most potent, once i've found a good one then start selecting at the seedling/veg levels for really fast growing but not tall growing/stretching (great for indoor) traits etc so i can get a fast growing, small/bushy, potent strain of my own. also i'm wondering is it good to fertilise only half a plant or use a few mails on one big budding female, but have the pollen in a bag and cover a budding branch with it and tie it off etc. then let the other half of each mother plant flower, test for potency, taste, aroma etc, then take the seeds from each mating you've done, and inturn breed up each set of seeds and test them keeping only the best. because selecting a decent male seems to only be easily done post mating/harvesting. anyway cheers NHMI

just made my first purchase over the net and got some landrace strains. we'll see how it goes i guess! hopefully they all get here in the next week and unhindered by customs haha

You can get plenty of IBL seed varieties online. TFD has Skunk 1 from Sam the Skunkman himself offered as 'The Pure' as well as Sam's Original Haze , and Afghan 1. Greenhouse Seeds is the original company that produced White Widow, White Rhino, El Nino with Shantibabba as the main breeder. Shantibabba has now his own company in Mr.Nice Seeds and offers his original WW seeds as 'Black Widow', White Rhino as Medicine Man, and El Nino as La Nino. The Next Generation Seed Co. offers Romulan , AAA Reservoir seeds offers Chemdawg...... etc. etc.etc. Go read the vendors descriptions of the seeds and they will tell if they are IBL or not.

cheers time2unite and johnny butt i was looking at both tom hill and ace stuff just last night, looks pretty good. they're definitely high up on my list of "to gets". here's a question, once you buy seeds how long can they last before they're inviable/dead? and what's the best way to keep them? somewhere dark/cold/relatively dry? cheers guys

Beans can last 20+ years if you dry them right and put them in the freezer in the proper storage. Coming from a breeder yours should be plenty dry and ready to be stored if you can't use them right away. I'd get some dessicants and put the seeds in something air tight and off to the freezer, when it's time let them thaw out for a day or two and fire em up.
