$4 Adjustable Light Hangers

Just stumbled onto something potentially awesome for fellow growers out there. Recently while working on a new flowering room at Castle Guerrilla, I needed to find a way to hang a 1,000 watt hood in a room. After googling around and thinking about buying a $30 light hanging kit from a hydro shop or a $40 winch from a hardware store. I stumbled on a tip from a different side that suggested using regular store bought blinds as a light hanger.

So I go to my local hardware store and buy this

I was skeptical as hell. However to my surprise they actually work perfect. What's funnier is they're the exact same thing hydro shops sell for $30-40 without the plastic blinds part. They also reach a good 6 feet so you have excellent light coverage. Also they're holding my heavy ass 1,000 watt hood just fine. I can't believe it was so easy and cheap for a problem that's been on my mind for awhile.

If you want to get finicky, I'm sure you could cut all the blinds off and use 'em for something. However, I saw no need to do this and looking at it kind of makes me laugh.

DIY for life.

IMO, it ain't sturdy enough. I enjoy a Friday night out partying knowing I am not coming home to a light crushing my plants......or causing a fire.

A+ for resourcefulness though!

Gotta agree with this post... Super clever no doubt, but I couldn't have peace of mind that way.

Think about how just loosening the slack on the adjustment string makes the blinds come flying down... Over time, holding that much weight, the mechanism that remains in place when taut would likely come loose.

Then as Admiral Canna mentioned, the light will crush your plants, and yeah, potentially start a fire.

They do sell a unit like this for plants, but it is heavy duty and still only designed to hold up a rack of fluorescent bulbs.

Agreed, this is trouble brewing, but a nice idea none the less.

Yeah I like the idea as well, but I'm paranoid about things falling on my plants or starting fires so I'll stick with chain and hooks for hanging hoods.

$6.00 fix for all of you wanting to lift lights with ease:

Mini Blinds~ but don't just buy ANY blind, you must find the higher quality blinds (available in better shops) that have BRASS pinch rollers (the part that binds the cord) and are made of steel not plastic as the plastic chassis of cheaper blind sets will dry/get brittle over time.

I had this mini blind set shortened to fit my narrow chamber and then I took ALL of the blinds and string out of it. I replaced ALL of the standard cord with a heavier nylon garden twine (I even found some proclaiming to be 'UV resistant') and I ALWAYS use the rope cleat shown as we've all seen this type of blind hanging crooked in a window from time to time.

please remember:
Metal chassis blinds
Brass (not nylon) pinch roller
Always use a rope cleat

This is sturdy and does work. I wanted an easy way to move my vert light up and down so I tried these. Restringed it with some thicker string. Works out pretty good.

Thanks Stoner4 for the tip.

Hope they work better for you than they do most people.

They make good supports for top heavy buds.

Just wanted to report in. It's been two nights now since I started using these blinds and it's been really bitching so far. I absolutely love how easy this is. Also I have relative confidence in the sturdyness of them. I've added a lot of extra weight to the lamp testing to see if I could break it. Surprisingly it's stood up well. I was rather concerned with durability myself, especially so after your responses. However I think it'll stand up over time. I probably will add a safety chain to it though just in case. I think I'll continue using it through this grow and then re-evaluate at the end. So far though it's bad ass.
