Do these look ready to transplant ?

Hi Everyone

these are 20 day old Himalaya Blue Diesel (Dwarf's) currently in one litre pots on a 20/4 light schedule in organic soil.

I am thinking that its time to transplant to 6.5 litre pots, same soil mix with added bone meal and chicken guano and a 400w HPS but as its my first AF grow, would really like some other opinions

Thanks

something is wrong if there 20 days old, they look way to small. from the strech on the ones you got in the back ground id say moving your light closer would benifit them greatly. if you tried to trasplant now the roots will be to small and will most likey break away with your soil when you tap it out the pot.

Those were crap beans or your just doing something wrong, over water ect. wait for them to get way larger before you transfer also

Hmmmmmm so bearing in mind they're AF's and therefore on a short lifespan as it were what should I be doing ??

They are in a mix of Perlite, Worm Castings, Peat Moss, Coco with Sea Bird Guano and dolomite lime and have been since germination, watered when needed with PH'd water and once with a mild compost tea and nothing else

lighting for first week was 18/6 then 20/4 with raised platform to get them nearer the lights

they are 3 inches tall and the blurb says fully grown they should be 11-16 inches tall after 8/9 weeks

is this because I started them in small pots and they should have gone straight into 6.5L pots and f the answer to that is yes shouldn't I d that now to let the roots get bigger ASAP ???

I am going to agree with dargo.....move your light closer...you might not have a good enough root base yet to transplant...:)

honestly the best thing to do when starting true AF's is to start them in the pot they will finish in.....but in your instance maybe letting one dry up just a bit(not bone dry) just enough to check how much root mass there really is....just be delicate and dont touch the roots........if there are plenty of roots then go ahead and transplant them all....in my opinion...:)

ok whats the ideal distance - at the moment its 50cm

they're getiing more leaves for sure but not any taller - should I leave them another week - any harm in doing that ?

I have my cfl about 1.5cm above the canopy and the hps about 8-10cm but if it gets to hot il move it a little higher. you need your light as close as possible without it burning the tops. hold your hand under the light for a min, if it dosnt burn move them up to that level. keep your eye on them and if they start to wilt move them down a little.

ok moved them up to 15cm below the light (from a whopping 50cm) - lets see - is it possible that they will now start growing 'properly' and be ready to move in a week to bigger pots without any long term problems ?

I have successful transplanted LR#2's that were that size..
You just need to be careful.
They were in stryofoam cups, I just ripped the cup slowly down the side and sort of "scooped" the root mass and plant out and put it new container with about half the cups soil in my hand when I did this.

that sounds really confusing.

ok now they are nearer the lights should I:

a. transplant
b. leave a week
c. sacrifice one to see what the roots are like and go ahead and transplant it ?

you're loaded w/ options here

if you were of a mind, you could flower them right in that pot. i dont recommend that

as a general rule, the root mass=the plant size (roughly)

when the plant starts looking bigger than the pot, pot up

I would just leave them but keep an eye on the temps. it would be different if they was in dixie cups.

also I dont know to much about organics but maybe your mix was to hot for a seedling.

take a photo of them now closer to the light then take another in 48 hours and compare them to see how much if any difference there is
