i found some bare quantum digital dimmable 600w ballast kits that do not come with anything other than the ballast, 120v, and 240v power cords... what type of mogul cord do i need to mate up to the quantum ballast? also i found these kits for 178.00 each shipped... is this about as good as it gets price wise?

Probably the cheapest solution would be a 14 gauge ext cord. Either cut off both heads and hardwire it or cut in half and hook up so they plug into each other.

I did this for someone else with a mag ballast. Never been inside a digi but, the idea is the same.

well you can find the quantum 600's for 194.00 shipped. with 8% bing cashback it puts it at 178.48 then another 2% cashback through amex is 174.91 so comes out to 525 shipped. I just offered 176.00 each for 3 units via best offer function. if he doesnt accept ill just use buy it now and get all 3 kits for about 525 after cash back.

hey freezer, preciate the tip and wiring diagram. I think i may do these lights on the cheap! im talking straight spliced extension cords to some bare mogul sockets.... hurricane candle protectors for cooltubes, and a stanley blower for cooling the 3 600w hortilux bulbs ill be using.

Not an electrician nor do I play one on TV but, splicing cords for this strikes me as bad magic. Wire or ext cords are cheap, use your savings for cords of proper length.

Quantums have a SUnSystem (square) socket, you'll need to contact a hydro store (or an online one) to get an allsystem cordset, or use a SS hood that already has the correct cord on it. Most hoods come with the cord already wired to them. Hydrofarm hoods have a different connector but they make adapters to go either way.

the golden reply! preciate that tidbit of info my man! im undecided as to weather ill dish out some cash for the cord/socket or if ill just wire up my own...

if i do wire them myself i will definitely not go ghetto on the joints... will solder heat-shrink.

FYI - I hear Quantum's eat Hortilux bulbs. Might want to look into that. Think I remember someone recommending Ushio bulbs.

do you have any links to info on this bro? i tried searching and only see Lumateks with probs running hortilux bulbs. I havnt seen anything bad yet on the quantum 600 ballasts??? my searching didnt pull up anything but good about this ballast. would i be better off with some magnetic hydro farm ballasts?

I have a couple Quantum 600's on order myself, I'll be running the Ushio bulbs. If you want the best, maybe look into the Sun Pulse bulbs.
