ok, so how long for tent to stop putting out gas?

How long before a tent stops out gassing. tHE SILVER MYLAR TYPE REFELCTIVE FILMMED TENTS, outgas. MY BUDDIES TENT AS SOON AS WE PUT A 3 WEEK OLD PLANT IN DIED. tHEY WERE OUTSIDE BEFORE. tHIS SAME TENT IN ANOTHER LOCATION DIFFERENT CROP DID THE SAME THING. wHAT IM WONDERING IS WHAT THE SMELL IS INSIDE THE TENT, iT SMELLS LIKE PLASTIC OR SOMETHING, SO IM ASSUMING THATS NOT THE BEST FOR PLANTS? iS THEIR A TIME PERIOD THAT THE MATERIAL WILL STOP RELEASING VAPORS?

i only had 2 white tents not mylar. they never stopped off gassing. atleast till i ripped them down and put em in the trash

I have the white poly cheapo's AND the silver film. What I did was clean them and then have a box fan in there and left the light on and just ran that until that STRONG plastic odor was gone, it took about 2 days or there abouts.

As far as does it ever stop, my girls only showed real issues when I could personally smell a ton of plastic odor BUT once that was gone I haven't had any issues and that was a few grows ago.

Both the so called cheapo white poly AND the silver film tents work great AND the white poly 4x4 tents were bought for under $80 shipped. I give props to the cheapo's

I think the main thing is proper airflow as well as odor control. If it smells too plasticy (is that a word?) open up one of the zipper sections a bit to allow further airflow until that plastic smells starts to remove itself.

I agree that there are some complaints that are VERY valid on the off gassing deal BUT just like any big ass piece of plastic that has been sitting around, it stinks of plastic and needs to get used, get dirty and get rid of that "new car smell" (so to speak).

problem solved. We tore the tent down and used the steel frame. Mylared the outside. 400 dollar frame.... yea he had it opend unzipped in the front, one entire door, all vents opend and using a 400cfm fan to suck air out and it sill smelt like plastic in their after 2 months.

i have a GL80 and my tent has never smelled like plastic. i love my tent and will never use anything else. maybe you just got a dud

imo plastic is plastic and will smell like plastic because it is plastic.
ive read a lot about the hydrohuts and the cheapy ones with the white interior plastic doing that. however i have heard the better quality ones like secret jardin do not. so i guess in this case you pay for what you get.

i love my secret jardin, no fumes or gas or w/e. put one week old babies in there. they loved it

it was reflective material. The "coating" over the reflective mylar material started to come off? like the mylar was turned into tissue paper feel where any creases or high stress areas were, so Im assuming the mylar material was coated with a protective film. It was a huge tent He got off e-bay. But this brings up questions as to why the new mylar ones are off gassing, and what the new material is made with, because its not JUST mylar, it has a protective film that seems to wear away fairly easy. The protective film is sightly rubbery/gummy which allows the tent material to flex and bend. It smelt HIGHLY of some chemical, which I closely relate to plastic, or like if you ahve ever smelt a huge roll of tarp, pool tarp or any type of heavy duty plastic sheet. My buddies tent wasnt cheap. it was $400 for a 10x7x5 foot tent. I would like to know why some people with high quality mylar tents dont smell anything. The smell didn't go away after 2-3 months either. I know they explain on soem web sites that the new tents have mylar reflective insides and not PVC or what ever, but they dont expalin what the coating is that protects the mylar lining from being ripped that they spray over it is made from. aNY ONE ELSE KNOW FO ANY ONE WITH SMELLY REFLECTIVE MYLAR TENTS AND THEIR PLANTS GETTING MAD NUT DEF ONCE THEY GO IN?

That's cheap for a 10x7x5, really cheap. Most tents that big that are made by a reputable company are 550+. Cheaping out always causes a big headache unfortunetly it'll always come back to bite ya in the ass. Best of luck with your $400 dollar frame...for future reference buy yourself a Growlab 145L you'll be happy

Thanks, I doubt he can afford a another 550 dollar investment tho. Tihnk hell stick with "organic" materials. Good ol wood and mylar. Really feels liek a kick in the ass spending $400 on absolutely nothing. You know how much of a pain in the ass that thing is to set up by yourself. I had to do it for him while he was in hawaii. trying to pick up like 150 pounds of tent material to drape over the frame. Being stoned didn't help either. Thought to myself, smoke a little bud then put up the cool tent. the frame was fun, then when you feel how heavy the damn material is your like o shit. It was like lifting a body over my head for 2 hours. I must have put the celing on the ground and then a wall on the ground like 3 times trying to figure out which was the celing and shit lol.

Yea man it happens to the best of us, you had it happen with a tent - i had it happen with soil with irreplaceable genetics, grow and learn it's how it is. Yes I am very aware of how much it sucks to set one of those up, try setting it up in a 10x10 room aint much to work with their. Yea i remember how it felt to try and lug what felt like a fat chick over those poles lol good times. Yea wood + mylar will treat you good, like i said for future reference stay green friend.

Only thing that troubles me is this is like the third thread about gassing issues this week from ebay baught tents.

i hear ya . my situation exactly. except i used tek foil and reflectix as i like them better than mylar

i have a 2x4x5 i just took down in a security scare i was have curling off the leaves r like they were mushin up maybe? hard to explain it came from ebay are these toxic its the one with led lights in it on the picture hydrohutgrowtent ect ?? i thought it was the tent but idk thanks guys good vibes what is the first signs off off gases and what are the first signs of lack of co2?
