and turns off when the water is gone.

I thought this was a sump pump, but the 1/6hp one that i just bought runs constantly when plugged in.

I need one with a float valve, that turns on when 'floating' and off when the water is lower.

Im pretty sure ive seen this type of pump, in a hydro mag, but now i dont see one. Someone please point me in the right direction, i am completely lost

You need a bilge pump float

They are used for boats when the bilge gets too full of water the float goes up and engages the pump. kinda like an overfill sensor.

I like the above suggestion.

If not, maybe a Rule auto sump pump will?
Google 'rule sump pumps'.

Bilge pump floats are designed for 12v
You really need a sump pump float. 120v

CAP Makes a Drain bucket with a float switch and pump, or you can look for a condensate pump, I'm currently using an old CAP Ebb and Grow controller bucket to drain my dehueys and misc other things...

A simple $20 float switch will do it. You can get 'em in standard tube float switches, with electronic sensors, or the paddle type w/ piggy back connection made to be attached to pumps like yours.

Thanks to all replies

The pump will be used to to catch runoff, and pump back to main reservoir.
I would say 12v would probably be too much of a hassle. 120v would be the way to go.

Maybe lazyman's reference is what i was originally looking for.

condensate pump?

1000th post!

A condensate removal pump will probably fail on you depending on what's in the runoff, if you don't filter it. I have one to pump out water into the drain from a dehumidifier on the floor, but that water is very clean.

I recently needed a sump pump for my basement.

I recently needed a sump pump for my basement.

Doing my research for what to buy I found that most plumbers recommend the Zoeller brand and claim that most pumps carried by Lowes, Home Depot, etc. are junk.

Here's what I bought. Cheap, highly reliable (say the experts) and has an automatic float valve. You just put it in place, plug it in and go.

Here's the best source/price I have found:

IDK why, but none at my HD had a float valve. (probably because they are all cheap, like someone said).

Lazyman, this would be great

If it wasnt taller than my reservoir! Im probably just going to move the res to under the table.

Gravity FTW!

Thanks again to all.

Not all. My Little Giant 5-MSP didn't come with one. (A piggyback non-tether float switch is available as an option, though, and some models come with one in the box, some don't.)

All submersible sump pumps come equipped with a float valve.
HD has one for $80

no they dont, the one i bought at HD was $86 and the cheapest (and smallest 1/6hp).

i dont see why you would bother to posted this, Its like your looking to start an argument.

ALL is incorrect.

What you bought was a "utility pump", which the 86$ model is the smallest and cheapest HD offers, and needs to have a switch purchased seperately. The smallest and cheapest "sump pump" they offer is the 79$ model, and as all the sump pumps they offer, has a built in level switch.
Look, I was only trying to help you. You think what you want to think.
Out.

what i bought said 'submersible sump pump' on the box. It was the smallest and cheapest pump (of any kind) that HD had. (stating this for the third time)

When you start going with me to my Home Depot, then i will start accepting what you say i saw.

But again, your just trying to get into a pissing match. This thread had ran its course, and then you chime in with useless and incorrect info.

I posted pictures of what to look for (helpful)
you post about what you say i bought (not helpful & not correct)

There is really no reason to pop off wise.
Look, let me guess...you have this model:
Flotec 1/6 HP, 1470 GPH Submersible Utility Pump

Model # FP0S1300X Internet/Catalog # 100178274
Store SKU # 147869

$86.41/EA-Each

Do yourself a favor and go to HomeDePot website. They have a section for pumps that explains in depth what the differences are between utility pumps (that could easily be used for a sump pump), and actual pumps sold as "sump pumps". Search all the models of Utility pumps and I bet your $86 model is the first one in their lineup.
Search sump pumps and you will find the cheaper model (wayne) that has an included float switch.

Utility pumps will normally come with the option to purchase a float, but they may not be used in auto in other applications. Sumps are expected to be used in a sump and will have a water level switch.

I find it troubling that you want to chastise me for trying to help you, so I continue this for the benefit of others that may not want to be confused.
