Nothing to do with MJ this but was just wondering how many IC users use Firefox compared with the other major browsers.

I used to use Firefox, but in my experience its far less reliable and nowhere near as fast or clean as Chrome. So now I use Google Chrome exclusively. There are some great add-ons for Chrome too.

Agreed: Firefox is an outstanding choice :) Been using FF now for almost three years and never once had an issue with it. Recently been designing a website and had to test it across the range of browsers and lo and behold - it renders best in FF too. Maybe it's just me and my bias but I'd swear the images look better when they're rendered with FF than they do with any of the other browsers.

Liked firefox until chrome came along, on my computer it's the fastest yet. And I like it clean, not a lot of garbage comes with it.

Chrome really is the new Firefox. Both are open source, both are reliable, both support some really great add-ons (Firefox has more at the moment as Chrome is still quite new), and both are fast and secure. From my experience, Chrome marginally outperforms Firefox in all aspects aside from the amount of extensions that Firefox has. Give it a year or so and this will change though.

For anyone here that hasn't, here's a link to download Chrome. I highly recommend it: http://www.google.co.uk/chrome

safari is fast and simple, i dont want anything else
tonto

Safari, KHTML, Google Chrome, some Nokia devices, et al. are built on the WebKit browser engine.

At WebKit.org you can download the latest 'update' which comes out about 4 times per week. It will not interfere with your Safari installation - on the Mac OS X anyway. I seldom boot into Windows and it's not for running Safari/WebKit.

Usually Apple updates Safari every couple of months - by using WebKit you can have those updates several weeks earlier.

WebKit has a version for both Windows as well as Mac OS X. You can also download the source code and compile it yourself if you're so inclined.

And if you're a Mac user you may want to checkout OmniWeb - originally developed for NeXT Computers under Steve Jobs, it was ported over to the Mac OS about 7 or 8 years ago. It has a rather interesting method of displaying Tabs.

Thanks you SO much for that man. That's saving me a lot of hassle. Found out I'm not rendering properly on a lot of browsers so that sucked but hey - at least I know now :D
You're welcome.

In case you're not familiar, there is an Extension for Firefox called Web Developer that is one of the best web development applications. And you'll probably want to also download the Extension called 'Firebug'

Both of these Extensions will make your web development far, far easier as you'll learn once you start playing with it.

Within this Extension you can validate against any DOCTYPE declaration as well as validating CSS, (X)HTML, et al. as well as 503 Accessibility Standards, et al.

It's free and far better than many (maybe even most) commercial HTML editors costing hundreds of dollars. Like Adobe Dreamweaver.

Thanks a lot bro. I installed that web developer toolbar and yeah - it's pretty awesome ;) Yeah, you're right too - most of the free stuff IS way better than the shit you pay through the nose for. I've always preferred writing the code myself and if you've never used notepad++ code editor I highly recommend it man. I validated my pages a couple of days ago and they were tip-top straight off the bat - only two instances across the whole site where I forgot to add "alt" attributes to <img> tags. Notepad++ has some cool selection, indenting and highlighting abilities that really helps get that html down and tidy and the find and replace is awesome. You can also have multiple docs open in the same window (tabbed) at once - that's pretty handy too.

I used to use firefox, but opera has almost all of firefox's add-ons and is twice as fast. Give it a shot! I used to be a die hard firefox, until my other forums (for geeks basically) all were amazed at the speed of Opera. I still have firefox installed on my computer just in case.

If you are a "stumble-upon" guy, then use firefox... Opera doesn't support stumble :(

:yeahthats:yeahthats

I cant live without speed dial now, and the new interface on the 10.51 version is fkn awesome.

You've got to try opera guys, I swear by it. Peace all!

I love Opera too. It's got a load of useful features, like the right-click auto refresh and stuff like that. Great interface too. It's my favourite 'heavy' browser. I challenge any of you to try Google Chrome and honestly say that any other browser is faster though. After I started using Chrome, Firefox just felt heavy and sluggish.
