I've used both regular and smart pots in coco/perlite mixes and have come to a conclusion. I'll be sticking with the smart pots by a small margin, but they aren't some magical pot that grows huge root balls or doubles yeilds. I wish that were the case, but I'm not seeing it and I consider myself to be pretty good at this coco in small pots thing.

If given the space I'll take coco/perlite beds anytime over air/smart/regular pots. Almost infinite lateral root growth.

I'd like to add, we're not kids here [I hope], so I don't know why this this thread which tunred out to be a solid one had to start with an attack against a member for his personal opinions about a pot. Seems silly and childish....

It started that way cuz dude attacked me with neg rep for telling Head he might do really good with Air Pots or Smart Pots and then went on to say what he did when I hadn't said a word to the guy he needed to be made an example of. Also I hoped it would make him learn how good these pots really are and look at that he's thinking of getting some Smart Pots so my thread did it's job...

I found those pots that mjactivist mentioned earlier by Aurora Inovations called Root Pots and they are cheaper for sure!

Root Pots

I gotta say I really like the fact that they are Degradable and made from recycled material as well being the "green" kinda guy I am even my phone is made from renewable BioPlastics so I'm going to have my shop order some of these since they carry Roots Organics soils/coco and nutrients I'm sure they will get these too..

I found those pots that mjactivist mentioned earlier by Aurora Inovations called Root Pots and they are cheaper for sure!

So the importer finally found a distributor. They were at the annual wholesale nursery trade show last August but it was impossible to contact them or get any kind of legitimate pricing information.

They'll probably do better with the boys down at Aurora than they were doing flying by the seat of their pants on their own.

The importer had a dozen or so products with some being the biodegradable version that you're talking about.

I got mine finally.
They are taller and less wide than smart pots. But, the fabric seems a little softer and thicker.
The one gallon's are too tall for the uses I had in mind, so they will be used for other apps. But the 2 gallon's are perfect.
For the price they are a killing.

Just picked up some 1 gal and 2 gal Smart Pots. Right now I am using Green GH bricks, but need more soon. Was wondering what Coco everyone likes to use with Smart Pots? Thanks!

I use pure Cana coco. Just be sure and presoak it with the appropriate strength ph-balanced nutes before you transplant.

It'll be a while before I get to flower in them but they seem alright. When it's assembled, the base is off the ground. I like.

Nobody carries Canna in my state! Impossible to get! B'Cuzz is the only bagged Coco around. Bricks are plentyfull. Might give the B'Cuzz a try...but its expensive,

I posted this in the other Smart pot thread, but for those that missed it, there is a similar product called Root Pouch. They are also bio-degradable air pruning pots like the Root Pots, but they are much cheaper.

Here is the price breakdown for 1-3 gallon bags

1 gallon (15 - 20 month fabric): $.18

3 gallon (15 - 20 month fabric): $ .34

3 gallon (18 - 24 month fabric): $. 37

They also offer 7, 10, and 15 gallon sizes. Im not sure if they go larger though. Min. order is 50 pots, but its still real cheap at those prices. Ive used them on a previous grow and was impressed with them. I didnt see any root circling after harvest. Ill be doing a larger grow with them soon. Another two weeks or so, and Ill transplant into the 1 gallon bags. Even with the shorter life span, they are still a better deal than the Root Pots.

Even if they didn't work great, they're still much cheaper than plastic pots, so win win, imo.

Thanks for brining up the min order. I forgot about that. It is actually 50 bags, no min order price wise. You can just ignore that. I have ordered from them twice now. The first order was for just 12 bags, but now they've implemented a 50 bag min order. I get the pricing info from Ashley Fromm(she works for them). The bags come in black or grey. My first order was grey, but second one was black, although Id prefer the grey ones.

Anyone worried about them being sketchy will be happy to know you actually get your bags first before you have to mail them a check/money order. I wish they could just do credit cards, but for whatever reason they dont AFAIK. I need to mail off my check today before I forget. Please no one take advantage of them by ordering pots and not paying for them. They're taking an unnecessary risk by sending you the pots first, so please dont take advantage of that.

Just transplanted some plants into Smart Pots. Was wondering if it is normal to barely get run off to come out? Seems like the bottom holds alot of moisture, any tips or suggestions? Thanks alot!!

Just keep watering until they do, if that's what you're after. I personally rarely water that much...just makes a mess of my cab. I water about 3 liters per pot and I'm using 3 gallon SmartPots with LC's mix.

I really did not notice any problems with drainage. Did you presoak your coco before transplanting? I found that once the coco reached it saturation point, all excess liquid would drain.

Yeah I always presoak Coco. Transplanted then watered the whole Smart Pot. Maybe it will just take a couple waterings to get it to run through. Do most people using smart pots not water to run off as much?

I try to stop as soon as I see water coming out the bottom. I also use about 3 litres per #3, when I get to 2.5ish litres I wait and water, then wait and water again untill the first signs of drainage, than stop.

Thats my method with #3 SP's
