Look into the Cassamanca region. I've never been, but I've been sitting on some Senegal Haze seeds for a while now, and purportedly the mother of that strain is from Cassamanca.

i have been to The Gambia, i suppose its more or less the same in Senegal. You will meet a "best friend for the holiday" on the first day. the will offer themself to be your "best friend" cq guide etc. Just make sure you dont get hooked up with a crook. Bud is very cheap , but quality very low too. So i would suggest that you bring bubblebags with you, you wont regret that.

hope this helps....

Hi there, my first post in the icmag :)

I´ve been two times in Senegal, also a few days visit to Gambia. Both nice places for "Green issues", i guess. Gambia has a british colonial background, in senegal the french ruled, so maybe a only english-spoking traveler has better chances in Gambia in this sense. Also Gambia is in general terms a better place for growing tha north senegal, so the gambian pot is similar to the one from Casamance (La Casamance is the southern part of senegal, not very turist-friendly at all )

In the Senegal i tested various weeds: the best one was sold in the capital - Dakar- and tourist areas, but is not easy to purchase if you have not a good senegalese friend, it´s was called "marron" (meaning "brown" in french ), an awesome red-like buds coming from Guineas (equatorial Africa ) and southern casamance. The marron included some seeds in the buds and the pot was compressed and broken, but the appeal was nice. Awesome high, better tan those typiccal indoor buds from the netherlands, as the outdoor growing in the equatorial areas made that psiquedelic weed possible. Nice flavour also, mostly indica like taste and heavy smell.

The typicall weed smoked by the people in senegal (and the tourist in general ) is called in french "vert" (" the green one", several other names in wolof, the most used language in senegal ) and it´s a cheap, ultra-compressed and seeds-full green material with lot of leafs etc

Cannot see or taste the famous hash quoted in Clarke's 'Hashish', but it exists as some senegalese smokers told me..

thanks for the knowledge Donosti, most helpful

a pleasure, i read another thread in this section about India where you give an interesting info too

Something more about the prices: weed was really cheap for a european or nortamerican average consumer there in Senegal, don´t know about the evolution of prices this years, but 5-6 years ago I get some 10 g. of the best "marron" red-guinean buds for 20-30 Euros ( well, i´not senegalese nor black wolof speaking man, so i assume i payed a higuer price than average for senegalese people, but not a bad price at all for me! )

About the Gambian one, nothing to say about prices (as was my senegalese friend-driver traveling with me on Gambia who buyed there ) , but the buds where little different from those "red-marron" i smoke in Senegal. Gambian weed, i have to suppose that was a kind of gambian landrace, was more "orange" than reddish, and not as sweet as the marron. I have to say that the "marron" sold in Dakar still in my memory as one of the best weeds i tested around the world! what a high...:smoker:
