agrosun red 600w hps bulbs flicker on a lumatek 600 digi ballast...but the flickers are very bright pulses, maybe provide some benefit ?? like solar flares ??

Solarmax is, imo, the best bulb out there.

Not a fan of Hortilux... Less light, more heat, and no positive difference in the plants vs Solarmax. I'll personally never use one again.

I have used both Eye hortilux and plantastar from sylvania with about the same results. I voted for eye hortilux though since you can buy them a bit cheaper.

Hortilux recommends against using their bulbs with digital ballasts. I'm a magnetic ballast guy (Sun System 1) so the Hortilux bulbs have my vote. I still cannot understand why everyone is so infatuated with the digital ballasts. I'll take the American made Sun System 1 magnetic ballast over any Chinese made digital any day, and will likely save a few bucks while buying a quality American made product.

Because they put out less heat, 10% more light, and are dimmable, run both kinds of bulbs and on 120V or 240V. No cap to replace every couple years either, and they take up less space and weigh less. With the lumens my garden makes, it would take 20 magnetic 1000W ballasts to put out as much light as 16 digitals.

I am using Hortilux super hps 600 & 1000 both are working great and for $70 ea you can't go wrong

I have always wondered about this. Hortilux is supposed to be the best, but at $70 each for a bulb it better give one hell of a blowjob.

Is the Hortilux bulb really so good that it beats buying other bulbs sold at half price? From what I understand hortilux + digi ballast = fail. This sucks because a lot of us are using digis lately.

I feel like a hortilux will only grow a barely marginal bit better than the rest, but I have no experience with them to say.

Are the luxes really the be all end all of bulbs? I always thought they were overrated.

Since this is my first grow I gained all of my information from these and other forums. Sure found a lot of growers using hortilux bulbs and getting incredible grows. Mine is going great other than some ph and unexpected nute problems. By the way I am using a 600 watt galaxy digital ballast with no problems. The 1000 watt is a mag ballast.

I been running quantums with hortilux bulbs for 2 years. I have not had a single issue. In fact I internally flip every 2 hours and these bulbs get 6 start ups a day. thats a ton of abuse to put on a bulb. the yields keep improving, but I am reaching that 20000 hour mark and will be considering some new USHIO digi's, or the sunpulse lamps. I have used plantastars, Sunmaster, Eiko, Son-T-Agro's, gavita, solarmax, and agrosuns. nothing lasted longer or produced more than horti's with either a digi or magnetic. my quantums are significantly brighter and when I add horti's they are even brighter.

I was just gonna ask about these cuz they are what my buddy's swear by!! Do they have a 400w bulb how are they with digi's ? I run a Plantmax and see a major diff from the regular cheapo bulb that came with the system I got..

There is no question here guys, the hort's are the best and they yield the most bud when it comes down to final weight. I know people say they have issues with the digital ballasts but I have only actually seen that problem a few times from a few people when using them. ;)

Glad I made this post now.
But I must agree with you SOTF420, so far hands down the hortilux is winning the poll. I did make it for a 30 day poll. However I don't see even the Sunmasters catching up.

Now that I have seen that the hortilux is the favorite pick I will have to change over to them. I just ordered a new sunmaster and thats what made me decide to make the post, now I got to wait another 20k + hours before making the change. I just don't have the money to switch them out mid bulb life, or in this case the start of a bulbs life.

Whats the deal with the digi ballast, I hear many things about being trackable and that the freq they operate off of is easily detectable. Is this just rumors or is there any truth to it?

Yea I heard they were easy to detect by the frequency as well but I'd think a magnetic ballast would put off some type of detectable signals but who knows. I had also heard that digi's fucked up radios and tv's but mine sits behind my tv and it's in between that and my computer and no problems for me. I also love being able to run both MH and HPS
