Drinking beer has no negative effects on developing brains? (in the real world alcohol has More of an impact on the brain than weed)

Totally agree.

I think the alcohol age limit is just fine where it is. Was that even part of the question?

No but others discussed it earlier.

Are you an alcoholic?

I don't even drink lmao

And what would happen to all the drunks who support their habit buying kids beer? You're cutting in to your own action I believe ...

Good riddance.

This is more of a cultural issue, because in Finland, kids start drinking at a very young age. If they're going to do it anyway, let them get some beer and have at it. But, they don't go to school drunk (or if they do they get caught). You can go to school stoned, though, and the kids doing that here are some dumb shits, not learning a thing, braindead and taking up space.

Personally I think alcohol should be banned altogether, but that's not really realistic. The question was about legislative aspects, so I gave my opinion on it. I'm just speaking from my experience and point of view. Hopefully you can respect that :tiphat:

When they can hold down a full time job and pay for their own weed or grow supplys.

I agree, CM.

As long as the motivation to do so is goal-oriented and not "Hey, I just doin' this so I can smoke weed"

I mean that in the best possible way, I know it didn't come out just right :D

the alcohol issue is definitely a cultural thing! in america, you let a bunch of 16 year-olds go to the bar after class, and they'll all get shitfaced, "because that's what drinking is all about, right?"
in places like...germany, let some 16 year-olds go to the bar after school, they'll have a few beers and go home, and maybe even have a beer with dinner!

If I'm not mistaken, studies have shown that smoking can have negative effects on developing brains. I'd say 18 to smoke, 16 to drink beer, and 18 to drink hard liquor.

this is true, any mind altering substance can be damaging to the developing brain, and also it's best to know who you are a little before you start .

likewise children who are allowed to have alcohol young are more likely to have alcohol problems when older.

i would say 18 for both

using mj recreationally is fine by me - in many ways i'd prefer my kid to be sitting in his room stoned than drunk in the middle of town.

I think 18 is a good age... I started when I was 14 but i think its way to young... it cuts your motivation, I would have done much better in school if I had not smoked to much at that age...

1) if it keeps your kid(s) away from the evils of other drugs
including alcohol then YES it is a good thing.

2) it isn't so much an age that makes it OK (I know adults
that shouldn't indulge) it's more a maturity level coupled
with common sense and perhaps that child's confidence in
him/herself and being ready for that euphoric experience.

I first toked when I was 12, it was a seldom kind of thing at
first but by the time I was 14 it was daily/weekly. being the
60s it was the thing to do, rebellious, spiritual. I knew right
away I was a stoner for life.

first use, early years of use will nearly always be recreational
and therefore privy to overuse or abuse in extreme cases, or
maybe just casual/moderate use which is best imo.

later years usage will likely be medicinal, mine is. personally
I had a bad back accident w/severe spinal injury & cannabis
keeps me away from the Oxycontin & Hydromorphone that's
prescribed to me monthly.......

It's good for the head as we all know by now, can't be denied.

i would say 18, i had a few friends that were straight a students and good athletes, but decided instead of homework or practice go home and smoke ALL evening/night then get bad grades and drop out of sports. as someone else said really its different for some. i had my first toke when i was 13 at a metallica concert, and loved how it relaxed me. i vividly remember tellin my dad (rip old man) i had toked while at a pizza shop and he busted out some of his teen mj memories. until i graduated i would smoke maybe once or twice a week i smoke more in a night then i did a whole month back then.

Well, assuming you have weed that will knock them out, then the first time they get unruley, or start to cry for no apparent reason. 6 months?

Reading through some of the topics here and I noticed that many of us began smoking in our teenage years. BUT many of we who are parents, or just concerned, consider this too young for first exposure. So I have 2 main questions:

1) Do you think using MJ for recreation is a GOOD thing?

2) What age do you consider is a good age to allow 1st exposure and how do you square that with the age you had your first experience?

1. I dont think its a bad thing, as long as it doesn't interfear with that peron's responsibilities.

2. "...allow 1st exposure" I take it you are asking this question to parents, which age would you allow your child to smoke. Gosh, thats tough. I guess it depends on the situation. There are cases of children taking cannabis very young to treat things like autism. Now if your asking me personaly, I have a very healthy 3 year old, I would have to say that he would have to prove himself a responsible adolesant first. Of course, I would rather he learn about it from me than from friends. I hope to have an open, honest relationship with him by the time we get to this topic. I was 15 when I started puffing. I guess I'll just have to wait until the topic is brought up and deal with it from there. I imagine I will deal with it the same way I will deal with alcohol.

i started smoking 14...i think maybe its too young becuase it made me kinda paranoid and unsocial in high school

i think college, or 18 is a better age for smoking because you can handle bad trips either..

1. Yes
2. 18

I was 17 when I first smoked a joint. Immature yes, but handled it np and had a blast sleigh riding with my friends.

Didn't really drink much till I was around 24, always prefer'd the herb.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I was 18 when I first felt the effects of MJ - may have smoked some shake b4 that - but nothing happened

Agreed if you're old enough to fight for your country you're old enough to use marijuana. With alcohol far more damaging...

18 to use marijuana
21 to use alcohol

Medically any age the advantages outweigh the risks...

In my opinion
