I keep hearing the Plantmax 1000w have more lumens and my 400w Plantmax is JUST as nice if not better than at Hortilux and has a lil more wider spectrum..
Hortilux all day.......unless you are running digital ballasts.....then I would say AgroSun. They stand up better to the sonic pulse produced by digital ballasts.
Im just trying a bunch of bulbs so ill let you know in 6 weeks :d
I have a room with 2 rwos of 5 lights
one row apart from 1 bulb is Higrolux Optired
and one half apart from one bulb with Hortilux,
I also have for the 2nd bulb on one a Hortilux blue (metal halide) and the 4th bulb on the other side is a Higrolux Convertion bulb
The idea was the two full/blue spectrum bulbs would be far enough away from each other to make seeing a difference easy.
Im only in the beginning of week 4
I cant see any difference so far between the 2 HPS, All i can say so far is that the hortilux Blue and Hirgrolux Full spec conversion bulbs make the plants noticeabley healthier and it seems like they have as much, maybe more weed on the plants, it is however way to early to tell if leaving them in the whole crop and not just for veging and transition is the best thing to do. And they are $250 instead of $100
Hortilux 1000 HPS no question about it best bulb there is for growing a shitload of dense high calyx to leaf ratio pot that is funky as hell. Their MH is great too but you will get more leaf growth in flowering.
Hortilux......I noticed the difference years ago when I ran it right next to an Agrosun.
I recently was gifted a brand new Plantmax.....used it for a minute.
I used to use the cheap(brand???) $60 bulbs from the grow shop, and I can say that I definatly noticed a difference when I finally switched to Hortilux Eye bulbs.
The Hortilux simply has more actual PAR watts that plants use to power photosynthesis than the others, so the growth and yield is greater from what I have seen hands down. Also, plants use the orange/red, red, & deep red spectrum for flowering and the Hortilux HPS is very rich and full in that range for an HPS.
fresh bulbs, sorry not a brand. but they are all best when new, and the spectrum diminshes well ahead of lumen loss as the bulbs age. current bulbs from december headin to the garbage by may...
This is correct, the ballasts make a difference. Also high on the list should be Ushio for digitals, but no question on the magnetic ballasts, Eye Hortilux all the way.
I switched to all digitals since I always saw a 10% lumen increase at the canopy over magnetics, same bulbs, hoods and distances.
Also get a good reflector, the Magnum XXXL throws down 16% more lumens than my old Xtrasun 6AC hoods, so with digi ballasts and a good hood you might be throwing down over 25% more light for the same energy use!
If you want to use Hortilux with digitals be forewarned, I ate up 7 bulbs in 2 months with my Quantums. Some guys have better luck but most have rather poor experience with Eye Hortilux bulbs abd digital ballasts. Ushio and Sunpulse are supposed to be digi-friendly and should be on your short list.
Thanks for the advice, im going to be ordering off htgsupply and they offer the agrosun, sunmaster and the hortilux. Any opinons on which of those would be best with a digital?
