is more potent cannabis more addictive?

I think its very mentally addictive as I used to jones my ass off when I was out, but it was all in my head, no physical withdrawl.

I think a persons all time favorite strain would be more mentally addictive then just your average shwag, but not everyone likes the same things, one persons favorite may be super potent, but another persons favorite may be a bit weak, but have a great taste, etc...
So no, IMO more potent would not be more addictive to everyone, just to people who like really potent weed.

Why is it that everytime I mention cannabis addiction, some1 will come in and bring up sucking dick for crack. I am sure that someone somewhere had to have sucked dick for some weed ok. Now that you kno someone has suckd dick for it, will it classify as an addictive substance to you? I mean not smoking cannabis just makes me jones a litte and theres a little appetite affect, nothing too serious at all, but its enough to make me want to smoke again just to relieve it, which makes it addictive... you can ask around, there is physical withdrawal from cannabis, and mainly in the form of minor appetite loss.. im not saying its terrible, but it is present, and other members here agree.. it is proof that cannabis is physcally, and mentally addictive.. if it wasnt, then why would it be the mostr popular drug...

Cant we all just accept the facts, instead of lying about what our plant really does to ourselves and others?

It's not physically addictive. END OF STORY. The research has already been done. A Fact is a Fact. Its all in your head. Peace and *bong* everyone.

Personally I used to be addicted to heroin and I love strong bud, but I am not addicted to it. Though since I have severe anxiety I choose to smoke everyday, but I run a successful $6figure business....so whatever...pot is getting stronger but it is still harmless, even if it were 100%THC but it would be some kick ass danks and if you didn't smoke often you would probably be taking a nap...lol..but other than that.

The point I am trying to make here is that calling the minimal habit-forming nature of cannabis "addiction" is like calling a 12oz glass of water a "body of water" - yes, it is "technically" accurate, but it is so exaggerated that it obliterates the very meaning of the word addiction. I have experienced severe withdrawals from nicotine and seen crack turn people into fucking zombies. Those are both good applications of the word "addiction" and I think that represents the range of real addiction - e.g. my 10 year pack a day habit would be rated a 1 on the scale and dick sucking for crack is a 5. Cannabis is .01 on that scale, so why even bother talking about it in the same context?

I am really a proponent of being honest with ourselves about cannabis and I think it is important to examine our personal negatives with it and adjust our usage to mitigate those negatives as much as possible. In fact, I think that a thread focused on the negatives of cannabis in the context of medical treatment would be very valuable to others who may have come to MMJ from the party world where you are just trying to get wasted. And I think that it is appropriate to call out the reality that smoking cannabis can indeed be slightly habit forming. Personally, that is the very least of the negatives - i.e. not that negative at all.
Besides, "habit forming" is not necessarily a negative at all. Exercise is habit forming! I personally "formed" a habit of pulling a bong hit after work and putting in hard miles on my bike.

Now, to address the question "is more potent cannabis more addictive?" I would say that, in the case of a newb toker who could get plenty high off a single hit of 8% THC weed, that giving them a single hit of 20% THC weed would quickly increase the number of required hits of 8% THC weed to get the same effect. Once a new toker graduates to taking 3 hits of 8% THC weed to get to their desired state, they are MUCH better off taking one hit of 20% THC weed as less smoke = less carcinogens, etc...

All that said, I do agree with part of your OP when you essentially said that the economics drive breeders to focus on narrow bands of the overall picture. The reality is that a lot of strains are selected for tric production - the actual high is not often a selection criteria. It sounds like DJ Short might be an exception to that, but I have to admit that the idea of growing out 1000 plants and sampling the high of each to find the best high seems a bit far fetched. Until we understand more about the different mixes of cannaboids and breeders use gas chromo to analyze, I am afraid we are stuck with our current reality.

Inhaling smoke is not good for one's health, therefore medical strains should be as potent as possible. And not just in THC but all pharmacological agents. The low potency good taste stuff more for recreational use perhaps.

About the "other thing"... I think many people simply refuse to believe that physical dependence and addiction are separate, if related, things.

I use cannabis every night . I just took a five day vacation without it because I didn't want to fly out of state with herb. The only thing I missed about about herb was the joint pain relief. Didn't miss the buzz or taste. Coffee is way more addicting.

Potency only matters with drugs that have a potentially lethal consequence to use. If you go to a few AA meetings and take a survey you'll find that well over 1/2 the members are there from excessive beer drinking, and you'll need to spend significant time and effort to find even one drunk that got there from drinking Everclear. Even the AAs that were mostly into 80 proof liquor cut the potency down by making mixed drinks.

its the addiction to a different form of conciousness, not to the plant or the THC,

Yeah, cannabis is addicting. Just like the internet, chocolate, fapping and good music. But definitely NOT like heroin, cocaine and benzodiazepines. Those are physical addictions which will produce physical withdrawal symptoms when consumption of the drug is ceased. So it's the same as asking whether better music or fapping to nicer-than-usual porn is more addictive than the standard forms of those activities. Well yes of course (if you're the type to like strong weed), but it's still not a real addiction in the drug sense. Apart from maybe eating a bit less because you were used to the munchies, you're not gonna get withdrawals from quitting weed since the CB receptors don't mediate a true addiction. Anything in the world can be addictive in the way cannabis is addictive. TBH I really don't see the point of this thread, it's like asking if sativas are more addicting than indicas, it all depends on personal preference (some people may not like a certain kind of chocolate which may in turn be "addictive" to their friend because they really like it a lot)

If you consume something on a daily basis for long periods of time then no matter what it is your body is going to go through some sort of withdrawl when you stop, your body gets used to things. When you do something you enjoy or like or love or even hate on a regular basis your body becomes addicted to it in some way even your thoughts. I have an addictive personality especially when it comes to drugs but i dont find weed addictive in the sense that say heroin is addictive or sugar or tobacco. Iv had a herion addiction and tobacco kicked em both, and didnt particularly like either of them but weed? Its a love affair..
Just try cutting sugar out of your diet especially if you consume alot...see how you feel. Peace

Using cannabis is not addictive so the answer is NO......now growing it is another subject all together.

A happy plant will taste better, look better, weigh more, and make you higher. They like personal attention and love, sounds crazy, but it's true.

no, more potent cannabis is not more addictive than less potent one...it depends on your volition: do you want to be addicted to it? often a lazy mind will...stil they proved that smell and high can be differentiated look at Strawberry Haze by GreenHouse (which is a strain i love) GREAT strawBERRY flavour and smell and real mellow happy high...
