Sussman's Supreme T5 Sea of Green

Hey there Cannagraphers! I'm newish to IC MAG but have been lurking around for a while now, and certainly not new to growing. I must say though, You guys here on ICMAG are a valuable resource for every grower and it is awesome to stumble on a great community of growers with tested, fact-based information. I recently picked up an 8 bulb t5 light and after some research decided to go coco sog. So far its working out well and I may have to implement coco into my HPS grow as well.

Specs:
432 w 4x8 mixed bulb T5
24 plants in 6x6 in 3.4L pots
265 cfm exhaust fan
6in fan for airflow over canopy
4x4x4 ft grow box
Canna Coco
Full Canna Nute Line

Feeding (per Gallon; Hand watered once daily; About 20 percent runoff):
10 ml a+b
2 ml rhizo
8 ml Cannazyme
7 ml Cannaboost
3-5 ml pk 13/14 (added from day 16 - day 27)
Ph adjusted to 5.8-6.0
Tap water distilled for min 72 hrs

The strain at the moment is an amazing blue cheese phenotype that I found in a pack of Barney's Farm beans. Just for the sake of experimenting, i let 18 clones veg for 2 weeks and 6 clones were flowered as soon as they took root. The clones allowed to veg for 2 weeks are in the vicinity of 12 inches tall, the others are 6-8 inches. Space is a bit tight and the girls do require a bit of thinning out from time to time...Always makes me nervous trimming out leaves and lower bud, i'm always afraid I'll take off the wrong leaves or take off to much altogethor. If Anybody has a decent trimming/thinning link i'm all eyes!

Without further delay here are some shots of the garden... Feel free to drop questions or criticism, I'm always looking for input and advice!

first few pics are the Coco Cheese, the last is of the same strain grown in soil.

Great SOG man, I love sog. Have one going my self. That cheese looks awesome! I just germinated a cheese mom so looking at your pictures makes me excited to be able to flower the same plant! I love the T8, I imagine those are HO bulbs? Looks like one is out, better replace man! That one bulb is like cutting your self short on some good amount of bud.

Keep it up man, Im watching

Thanks a lot man. It seems like a lot of folks are growing blue cheese lately... out here in colorado nobody had it this past summer when I moved out here, now it seems like its gaining popularity. What breeder did you get your seeds from if you don't mind me asking? And yea, the bulbs are High Output t5s, they actually get a bit hotter than i had originally expected with good airflow i can keep the lights about 3 inches from the top and have the canopy at about 77 F. And the cool thing about these lamps is that you can turn off the bulbs individually.(makes its easy for taking pics)

Nice to see more T5 grows, I think there highly underappreciated for flower as the right technique needs to be used to maximize them such as no veg sog, scrog, lst etc. I'll be watching.

Absolutely. I strongly second this notion. Any old farts or big brain types want to throw together a trimming/thinning threadI would be keen as well.

Day 38 of 12/12

Day 38 of 12/12

Hey folks, just a little update.

The girls are now on day 38 of 12/12 and starting to fill out nicely. One thing that I noticed is that I think I may have trimmed off too much leaf matter, the plants that received less trimming are looking slightly heavier at this point. Oh well, its a new set up, live and learn I suppose.

I also tried adding 1.5 ml. canna pk per gallon on sunday. Monday they were showing signs of a slight overload of the pk but today they really seem to have responded to it and jumped up a bit in size. I'm hesitant on adding more of the p/k seeing as how i added in weeks 3/4.

I'm really hoping for at least 12 ounces out of this set up which would give me .77 GPW. :joint: heres to hopin!

The overall garden

Another shot of the garden

A close encounter with the cheesy kind.

Thanks for stopping by guys, and as always constructive critics are welcome!

Looking good buddy. Did you know that t5 will drop in lumens if not at the right temp?

The T5 lamp provides peak light output at 35 °C (95 °F) air temperature. (By contrast, the T8 and the T12 lamps provide peak light output at a 25 °C [77 °F] ambient air temperature.) The T5 lamp has a higher lumens-per-watt efficiency than a T8 lamp of about the same wattage, in a space where there is little or no air circulation.

Someone looked it up the other day and claimed it's a 10% loss if you operate them at the lower temp, which would be an interesting dilemma for t5 growers. Peace.

Thanks for the info ScrubNinja, I had never heard that before and I'm going to have to check that out.....

Okay, so after some quick research it would seem that the bulb puts out the most lumens at its hottest, circulation in the cab would would cause the bulb to cool down not reaching its preferred burning point. My idea would be to possibly add a glass lens to keep the fixture at optimal temperatures , but would that reduce more lumens???

Day 49(ish)

Day 49(ish)

Hey all, little update on my garden for anybody watching. I'm now at day 49 with my blue cheese under the t5 lights, they are doing quite well and i think they may be ready in about 7 days, normally my soil girls go for about 60-65. Im still hoping for at least 10 grams per lady and with fingers crossed we may actually make it there!

I also added a 400w HPS in the cab with a bed of 15 clones (still room for more) . The next round of clones have already started to root and will be my powerkush which is a little bit heavier yielding.
