Iolite Portable Vaporizer

well KJ, ya got me all hopped up on this... mine comes fed x tomorrow and i can't wait!
a friend told me he uses his just about everywhere (in a restaurant?) - it looks like a radio or something other than a smoking tool. most peeps don't know what it is...

it's a vaporizer for the respiratory condition don't you see... lol

As for using it in public...I'm always surprised to hear where people use them. I mean sure, most people wouldn't know what it is, but it DOES have an odor that would smell awfully funny to most people. And it DOES make some amount of noise about every 20 seconds as it heats up. So yeah, it's not THAT discreet, but some people seem to get away with it. As for me, I've never used it in public per-se....but it works great in semi-public places, much better than a bowl or a joint would. lol.

KJ, I'm glad to hear you finally got you 'device' back! New stateside service facility?! Hadn't hear about that one. Regarding public use, a couple friends of mine stepped outside a pub in downtown Ann Arbor MI for a smoke.. I went along and they said 'I didn't know you smoked'.. I sez.. 'I don't, but I thought I'd come outside and not smoke with you..' and proceeded to fire up my 'device' (thats what my friends call it). They were amazed and both to my surprise, said 'let me have a hit off that thing'.. lol.. there we were at high noon consuming cannabis in public.. people walking by paid us no attention whatsoever.

Now I want one with the new configuration. I'm going over to a friends to play poker tonight and he just go his brandy new model.. I'll get a chance to see the difference for myself.

I went to a friends to play poker last night. He had just received his Iolite and he got the new model. I noticed a couple differences in our units. First, his had a longer initial warm up cycle, second, it had a shorter space between the cycles and a shorter cycle when it was going. I notice a much better hit from the first toke after warmup than on mine. Bottom line, if you see a used Iolite on eBay, that will be mine. I'm gonna order one of the new ones as soon as I've got te spare change.

Im new to the Iolite discussion but I'm well versed with it from listening to the Dopecast. I have a nice little savings going on. Im saving up any left over lunch money from work and my wife, knowing that this will save me money in the end, has been kicking in hers as well. After 3 days I have about 20% of what I need.

Im really looking forward to using it, but I have a few questions. What is the possibility of passing it off as a medical device ie a pharmaceutical inhaler for asthma? If I wanted to get it into a football stadium under a medical pretense, how hard would that be? Also, people say it still makes it smell, but what would you suggest for the amount of open air? Is it safe to do in my car with my windows down in a parking lot? In traffic? Thoughts?

this thing certainly has possibilities. it's unobtrusive and doesn't give off much smell.

i'm new to vaping - having only done it two or three times prior to the iolite, so i'm learning how the process works. i really like having the effect without tightness in the chest... i really notice that. still, a big hit will make me cough.

I've found a few variable to be quite important to the efficiency of the Iolite. First, ur bud has to be either cut with scissors into a fairly fine consistency or run thru a grinder. The bud should be properly dried and cured. Full bowl of fluffy bud will rock my world if it's good product. Fill the bowl, but don't pack it.. it needs air space around it to properly release it's vapors. One of the most important (in case you missed it in earlier posts) is the brand/quality of butane you use. I've found 2 brands that work good.. Colibri (my favorite) and Lucienne (bigger can, lower price but not as good). Sometimes I think a person doesn't realize how buzzed they are from the thing until they start to try to function.. then it kicks in that you are stoned out of your gourd.

I pack mine full and give it a slight tamp with my pinky finger, causing the bowl to end up about 3/4 full. Don't overfill or overpack, it doesn't make for a good session in my experience. The device likes it best when it's not stuffed to the brim.

Good advice all around. I personally always use my 3-chamber metal grinder to prepare all of my medicine, vape or smoke. Not only does it produce the most consistent finished product for consumption, but it also leaves my grimy fingers off my medicine and keeps the precious trich's in tact (or drops them through the screen so I can collect the kief later).

And the butane bit is crucial. Do NOT use cheap butane in this thing...you'll regret it. Make sure to use butane that is at least 4 times filtered.

Sad news...I'm having yet more issues with my NEW unit. This time, the stem broke clean off right above the threads and left the new stainless threads buried in the bowl chamber. So yeah, I can't use it until the entire bowl unit is replaced. Contacted Iolite, got a VERY quick response and they're mailing me a new one.

I guess it broke because it got too hot, because I certainly wasn't using it in any way that would damage it. I guess they need to find a new plastic for the stem piece that doesn't get too hot and melt? Maybe make the entire thing out of stainless?

Yeah, I feel ya. Being an "early adopter" has its drawbacks. Overall though, I would still highly recommend the device, with the caveat that it's still a work in progress and there may be unforeseen problems.

But they do honor their warranty and it's a long one (2 years). I also think with the new care center in the US, the customer service problems will be a thing of the past (that has proven out so far in my recent interaction with them).

KJ..................What was your method of contact to iolite??? My Vape did the same thing to me after I bought it and it has been sitting in the closet since. I would like to get it going again. I just need the threaded stem and can't seem to find it. You would think they would make that part out of something other than plastic being it gets so hot.

They did recently change the thread portion of the stem to stainless steel to avoid breakage problems there, but now it just seems to cause problems higher up the stem. I'm sure they'll remedy it in future issues.

For what it's worth. I decided on the Iolite mainly for the portability aspect. I have a friend with a Digital Extreme and it works nice, but you've gotta be by a plug somewhere to use it, and it don't exactly fit in your pocket. A few weeks ago, I was over to a friends and I broke out 'the device' which is what people have kinda nicknamed my Iolite. With a nice clump of Strawberry Cough available, we proceeded to get very high. Within a few minutes, all 3 of these guys got online and bought themselves one. We play poker on a regular basis and to see 4 of these things around a table of 7 or 8 guys playing poker is kinda humorous. One interesting thing.. the new model is a little better and more refined than the old one. I'm probably going to buy myself one of the new models and keep this one for backup just in case. I love my Iolite (needless to say) and have not smoked a bowl of pot since October '09.
