So the normal peatmoss version is at lowes/homedepot while the Pro-Mix BX is at the hydro store. Obviously I'd greatly appreciate not having to ever go near a hydro store as often so I was wondering if anyone has extensive experience using both by chance if there was a noticeable difference?

The only difference in composition of these two mixes is this:

Pro-mix BX contains:

  • Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss (80-85 % / vol.)
  • Dolomitic & Calcitic Limestone (pH adjuster)
  • Endomycorrhize (Mycorise® Pro)
  • Macronutrients
  • Perlite — horticultural grade
  • Micronutrients
  • Vermiculite
  • Wetting Agent
Peat moss contains:

  • 100% Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss

Is there a company that sells an amendment on its own that can be added to the peat moss that mimics promixes Endomycorrhize (Mycorise® Pro)? Everything else I can replace.

Yes you can make your own , if you are willing to pay. I pay 25/bail. Seems like a lot of work making your own at that price. My medium is 8 parts Promix HP:8 parts peat moss:8 parts perlite:3 parts worm castings and 2 cups of rapid lime. Wet with bubbled water with Superthrive added and grow babies grow. Peace GS

I would have to say stay away from the BX

Unless you are adding something like perlite

Hi, hi, high!

This is what I use:

Organic Sunshine #4 (it has dolomite in it)

Perlite

100% Sphagnum peat - but as a side note, not all 100% peat mosses are the same. I only use Black Gold, which is Canadian The peat is soft and easy to break up, it is a dark brown, rich in humus. My nursery switched to Magestic Earth and I bought a bail. It was a much lighter color, but more importantly, it contained a ton of twigs and these chips about the size of a quarter that looks like particle board. With much effort, I could break up these chips; they were made of pressed peat. I'm going to use it for my tomatoes I guess; I won't use it for my inside garden for fear of multiple hot spots. I will never buy it again.

And finally, I use Great White mycorrhizae. It's mostly in hydroponic stores, but I can get it at a sustainable garden shop about 20 miles from my house.

The company is http://www.plantrevolution.com. It's awesome...expensive but a little goes a long way. I am reapplying it once a month this grow to see if it makes a difference vs. just a one time application in my soil mix.

I also only use dechlorinated water with the idea that if chlorine is put in the water to help kill microbes, using tap water would be counter productive. I still haven't figured out how to make that water tepid though, sigh.

My girls are sleeping right now, but I inherited a very sick plant and it is looking better (a little) but the roots are crazy after about 4 or 5 days post application. I will try to put up a picture for you in about 12 hours.

Good luck.
