Need a Good AC Idea... Do they have these special ACs?

I am growing in a shed and can't have a normal AC... summers get to be about 100 degree F or over sometimes.... I use an AC that is portable.... it has an 4 inch exhaust that I cover in this urban environment... however I don't think I can cover the WHOLE back of a REGULAR AC.... that's why I am using a portable....

the portable is bad for a few reasons... i think it uses more electricity and it isn't as cold...so trying to keep the temp down to 76 degrees while running 1000 watt HID is tough ...

Since it is exhausting it is taking air from the grow room which stinks during the bloom cycle... and makes this urban environment stink which is a NO NO!!! for security reasons.... I tried putting a 4 inch carbon but it shuts the AC off... I guess u shouldn't block the exhaust of an AC.... Not only that.. but I am running CO2 now and want an AC that doesn't take the AIR from the room!

So this AC sucks... I don't think I can do this grow with it.....

Do they make an AC with one intake and one outtake hose for cooling so it doesn't take the grow room air? What other suggestions do you have? Maybe I am missing some common sense...

thanks in advance

Have you thought about a mini split Ac

Never heard of anyone growing in a shed before.

Don't know if that helps .

it seems a swopm cooler is what you want it just blows air thorough cold wetted pads
might rais rh but you can run an exhoust and scrubber this way and the swomp cooler dose not have intake

Just get a window AC and box in the back only and hook a fan up to it to pull the air out of the enclosure. I have used insulation board, black and white poly and hvac tape before. Its ghetto but its a temp fix and it works. Got 10000 btu AC and all the supplies for 300 and the AC was 250. Its easy.

yeah sexybud.. just get a window ac. they dont exhaust the rooms air. they take outside air into your room. portables suck, cause they cant be around anything warm, which means it has to be outta your room, cause your lights give off to much heat.
good luck.

euphrates - a mini split might be more obvious than a regular ac... I live in a congested city where the neighbors are RIGHT next to you.... trying to go stealth.... my shed (grow room) is bad ass!! I've seen some really bad ass sheds on here too... As I said... the AC will exhaust stinky air and with CO2 it is no good.... plus it doesn't cool as much as I would like it to.

JoeBlunt - THANKS... that looks like a possibility... I was looking all over for that but never found it a few years ago... My stupid AC cost about the same!

OrganicMonkey - Yes Shed is great in the winter.. but can't grow outside.. cause in some places it is illegal (i'm not saying it is illegal here)... these people may have NEIGHBORS right next to them (not me though ;) ) ... it's legal here.. but i don't want my neighbors to think less of me ;)

bendoslendo - NICE link to the AC box.. that's why I posted here! People like u... and JoeBlunt... However, bendo... both links that you posted are the same =( ..... what is the other one supposed to be?

Okay... thanks guys I'm not sure what I am going to do.. maybe a box around an AC...

Thanks for the suggestions

You'll be wrong more than 9 times out of 10. Most (if not all?) unmodified window units will exchange air even when set to "recirculate" mode.

they take outside air into your room.
Where does the air already inside of the room go? Surely the window A/C unit can't be an air compressor, pumping up the air pressure in the inside room until the room explodes? See what I mean?

Listen to grow nerd....90% of window units pull a little fresh air/leak smell unless carefully boxed. Portable A/C's are completely useless.

You'd be most happy with a mini-split. They are extremely quiet and can be concealed easily as long a proper ventilation is provided. They have no way of leaking smell unless around the small penetration for the copper/electrical.

I can't stress enough how important it is to not get an online Chinese Special. I'd only recommend a Mitsubishi Mr. Slim for the fact that you can easily get parts for them at most supply houses which means they can be fixed easily by any HVAC Tech. without a long wait for parts.

How terrible would it be to have a room full of buds in the middle of the summer when your A/C craps out? It is worth the investment on a quality unit as this scenario is almost guaranteed with the cheaper models.

bendoslendo, the link you provided of that AC box is one of the reasons I was motivated to do a proper AC box thread. The one in the link provided is a bad idea and is not done properly. Many will argue that it works well, but I know for a fact that it does NOT work to it's potential when boxed up like that. It is not a good idea to follow that DIY, even if it has been tagged by Pontiac as a sticky...it is a failure. (no offense to the person who provided it or to those who use the method...it's just wrong that's all)

You can be 100% successful by enclosing a window unit...IF you do it properly.
My thread is in my sig line. And I am not here to argue about what may seem to work for others...I say go for it if you feel it's good. If you want it to work better, take a look at my thread.

Yes, my last two units have had two hoses, but can also be run with one. The current one is an LG, 10,000 btu bought at the homie depot. All the portables I've seen are designed to run with two hoses or one. I think, but I'm not positive, that running them with two hoses chills the room better because you are not exausting the chilled air out of the room. I run mine with one hose because I have have enough damn hoses running around the grow room as it is. And it supplies a little negative pressure for fresh air and odor control, as my lights are exausted seperately.

I would imagine that even if it was run with two hoses, there would still be a slight risk of odor leaks, as the units aren't built to be super airtight. A little weatherstrip and caulk would probably be necessary for super stealth.

If you're growing in a shed in the summer, you should insulate the roof and walls to minimize the heat load on what are essentially pretty crappy a/c units on wheels. But mine cools my grow with 2400 watts of air-cooled hoods, quick and easy if not a clumsily.

Spend 40 bucks and get or build a cooler with a fan on it.

Then you can use the water to water your plants. Ice may be a pain to keep refilling though.

That's exactly right.
