If I am in a pinch.....like now I buy the bags of Alfalfa at the pet store. Not the pellets but the hay. The pellets might have additives.

With mine I just grind it up into a semi powder. Works fine.

I used to buy 50# bags at the feed store or 100% Alfalfa for 11.00 and used a blender to grind that up. Worked great.

You are on the right track.

what ratio of alfalfa to water do you use when making the tea? Or do you use it as a top dress? And if so, what amount do you use per gallon?

1 to 2 TBS per gallon. Top dress about the same. For a spray I dilute about 10 to 1.

I let it soak in water for a couple of days to make the folair spray. Strain, dilute and use.

if the rabbit feed is pelleted rabbit feed than i wouldnt use it because it most likely is very low in alfalfa or may contain none at all... most commercial rabbit feeds are cheleated mixtures of all kinds of products that are special formulated to be a complete diet for rabbits... even though rabbits love alfalfa most rabbit feeds will contain other types of hay, namely timothy hay and orchard grass mix because they are much easier to grow and are also much cheaper... so what im saying is before you do that you might as well check to see if the ingredients of your rabbit feed even contains alfalfa (there should be a tag coming off the bottom of the bag if its a 50LB bag or bigger that shows nutritional values as well as ingredients) ... if it does then go ahead

like vonforne said almost all feed mills will sell bulk amounts of alfalfa for very low costs so that might be a better choice

Would there be excessive salts in the rabbit feed? Just speculating...

Any idea about mixing alfalfa meal with bone meal blood meal and kelp meal? or does it not need it. because i to have some extra alfalfa meal laying around.

I personally don't think there would any problem with as long as you let the mix sit fallow for at least few weeks, and don't use it on real young plants.

I would always suggest adding more spices to the mix. That being said don't overdue the entire amount that is added. If you were gonna add 1 cup of alfalfa meal then your overall should still be 1 cup of everything combined. Would suggest keeping a good percent of the alfalfa meal though as it has more benefits then just being a fertilizer.

thx for all your help Vonforne im using lcs mix #1 im going to try supplymenting 50% of the required kelp meal with ground alfalfa (i got a coffeee blender handy)

Besides what Habeeb posted, it's important to note that 'rabbit pellets' which are NOT identified as 'alfalfa' are, more than likely, timothy grass which is NOT alfalfa by any stretch of the imagination.

Generally the 'binder' used for pet foods for rodents is beet sugar molasses besides all of the additions that Habeeb noted. The problem, per se, is not the binder but the base ingredients.

There are pure unadulterated alfalfa 'cubes' (about 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5) at PetSmart, etc. which will serve you well. There are no binders and are pure alfalfa 'hay' (for lack of a better word).

Read the label!
