Iv been using hygrozyme for a little over 12 months now and am beginning to get really dubious as to wether this stuff is causing my root rot problems in hydro (dwc) and now after reading through some threads its seems others who are using are having problems.
i keep getting this root rot problem in hydro never had it before and i cant seem to get rid of it for shit! Iv been using Guardian Angel to help combat it and it seems to do nothing, i added h202 and its fucking worse in 24hrs!1 Any input on this product good or bad will be much appreciated....

As soon as I stopped using Hygrozyme in my Hempy buckets, I no longer had a rotten smell from the run off when I watered my plants and they really appreciated it.

i use it, i have the same issue. usually a few weeks into flower the roots just stop growing n brown up.
i use...
vita water conditioner
rhizotonic
hygrozyme
supernatural bloom aqua... during the first 2 weeks of bloom

but my circle swears by it...and even with the issues im producing great quality and amounts, just not hitting a homerun

If you don't have good bb's already established in your system, then Hygrozyme can do more harm than good by catalyzing the biochemical reactions of the bad bacteria.

Get some Physan-20 and keep in on hand to sterilize things between grows.

Thanks for your input guys, i use Hygro in coco too and the plants seem to love it. I wont use it in hydro anymore its really fucked my grow up big time and iv lost alot of weed. It amazes me how this product is so highly recommended when it causes as much bad as it does good if not more. Iv never had any problems with any other enzyme products! Ridiculous.

Hygrozyme is made up of all enzymes. After a while they can go bad. I had my bottle for a little over a year and it started to leave a white-ish sludge on my roots, then they browned up and died. It worked wonders before that though.

If it were my guess, I'd say your hygrozyme is expired. There is a thread around here somewhere about it.

My Hygrozyme is fresh and as far as i know it shouldnt go off if stored properly. iIt works fine in coco but destroys the roots in hydro last bottle did exactly the same. Latest breakthrough in horticulture my ass this product shouldnt do this at all. Il be e-mailing them and see what they have to say about their oh so amazing product..

I use it in soil and have noticed explosive growth. When used with small young plants I've seen an increase in nutrient uptake that burned plants that never were burned before. The root masses on plants used with hygro are gigantic masses of spinal column roots. Its proved its worth to me so I'll always use it.

The only time I notice signifigant root browning is when the roots have no space to grow. It does cause increase root mass so if your using it in small spaces, it may not be for you.:dunno:

Hygrozyme is an over-priced enzyme product.

You can achieve the very same results using EM-1 (EMAMERICA.com), i.e. Hygrozyme is simply another over-priced grow store solution to a very simple process in using lacto bacillus bacteria to get to a high anaerobic bacteria culture for the anaerobic bacteria to feed on.

Save your money.

YMMV

Do a Google.com search on EM-1 (EMAMERICA.com) as well as BIM (Beneficial Indigenous Microbes) and you'll save a TON of money.

I use both EM-1 and bokashi bran (as a soil amendment) and have for a few years. Hard core organic grower here - LOL

Wow man, thanks for the info on the EM - 1... Im in an ebb n flow however I use hygrozyme at a little less then the recommended strength and mix it with sm90 and have had good results... BUT you are right, hygrozyme is completely overpriced. I can't wait to try EM - 1.

I use general hydroponics organic bio roots.
I have used this on my DWC and rockwool systems and as far as i'm concerned it dramatically increase root growth. Within a matter of days of adding the GHE bio roots to the system the roots just explode and go nuts. Great stuff.

Quite expensive, £13 for a little tub, use 2ml per 10 litres of water as its very concentrated.

I am just this grow also going to be trying bio bloom from GHE as i've been so impressed with the GHE bio roots.

Hope this helps others... and yeah no problems to report with it regarding root rot ..etc

whats physan-20? Isn't rhizotonic pretty much the same thing as hygrozyme? Whats your temperature at in your resevoir? You prob. need a water cooler in your res. if the temperatures every go over 73 degrees F in your resevoir. Ideal temps for res. are 65-73 degrees. I had this problem as well, and thought it might have been a calcium defiency....But I'm starting to think that it was due to the temp. of my resevoir. The dude at my hydro store swears by hyrgozyme.....Hope I didnt waste 35 bucks.Roots excellurator is bomb tho.

Had problems with Grozyme in water systems. When I used it three weeks into flower not as much root rot....however I,ve given up on it b,cause it did nothing good for me.....Friends who use it love it as it does work for them.......A little too deep for me to understand however as I said earlier it doesn,t work for me...
good luck to anyone who finds it good for their roots.

Strange Slime buildup on roots: Now with Pics!

Seems to me, the more crap you add to the res the more full of crap the res will be. The grower has to place the slime in the grow. I've run my DWC well into the 80s for extended periods with no slime, rot or algae but, I never let hygrozyme or hydroguard or sm90 or h202 or any of the other stuff near my res.
