What's new

Any hydro-based peeps using micorrhizae?

What if one were to put micco in a spray bottle and hand spray the roots occasionally? Gets it out of the rez and directly where it needs to go.

How exactly would you spray roots that are buried in hydroton or some other medium? As far as I'm concerned, endo mycorrhizae fungus (which grows on roots and extends outwards into the grow medium) isn't compatible with most hydro methods. Ecto mycorrhizae lives insides the roots, though. That should work exactly the same in hydro as it does elsewhere.

Whatever the case, I blend the stuff directly into my rooting mix or just saturate it with an organic tea. Then, after the plant is root bound I drop'm in the clay balls. (The roots keep the stuff from washing away.) I seriously doubt that the hyphae extends outside of the coco, but it's better than nothing. Anyway, I say that it's more practical to devote your efforts to cultivating beneficial bacterias vs fungus. :2cents:

Aha, then in your case you could definitely spray those roots. You won't get any significant ecto mycorrhizae colonization (due to lack of medium). However, the endo stuff should work. Again, though, bacteria is probably your bigger asset to keep everything clean and free of disease. Btw, I bet a very filtered version of the tea discussed in this thread would work for you.
