Devils 2000w Mixed Bag-o-tricks!

Hi all,
Been working on this grow for about a month now. Last time I grew was soil about 15 years ago. How the time flies...

This time around I decided to jump in with both feet. Setup is as follows:

Flower room: 6'w x 12'l x 8'h
Grow Area: 4' x 8'
Light: 2 x Lumatek 1000w 240v Ballasts
Bulbs: Hortilux and one I can't remember off hand
Ventilation: 6" HO CanFan pulling through 50lb Carbon, then lights, then out
Grow Medium: lol....CAP ebb & grow, Soil, DWC
Strains:
Greehouse Seeds Cheese, Trainwreck & WhiteWidow (freebie seeds)
Dinafem Diesel (free seed as well)
Chocolope and Ultimate Indica clones (free from friend)
Nutrients: FoxFarm (ebb & grow) and Technaflora (DWC)
Soil: FoxFarm Ocean Forest

Veg Room: 10' x 12' but not setup yet.
More room than I need so building a 3' x 4' cabinet to house two levels. I for cloning and one for moms. I have numerous halide and T5 setups from my reef tank days just need to buy some bulbs. Will likely stick with the T5's though.

Everything is up and running. As I'm new to hydro, I made my first BIG mistake real quick. I read and followed the directions on the FoxFarm feeding chart. At 800-900ppm, my seedlings started to yellow in less than a day. Nuked the hell out of 'em! Things sure happen faster in hydro...both the good and the bad.

Quick Log:
3/1 - Seed into paper towels
3/3 - Clones into DIY aero cloner
3/4 - All 4 seeds germd, into RW cubes
3/10 - Clones showing root buds
3/14 - All clones rooted (not bad considering the cuttings sat in a car for almost 48 hours and it was in the 40's...can't complain about freebies.
3/15 - Seeds rooting out the bottom of the RW. Seeds and clones into ebb & grow. EC 1.1 BAD! Left 5 clones in cloner.
3/17 - Dumped res, filled with RO @ pH 5.7
3/19 - Added GrowBig only to 200ppm pH 5.7
3/20 - Clones in cloner growing like crazy! Roots 18" - 24" long...lol
3/22 - Put 2 clones into soil, 1 chocolope and 1 Ult Indica. Also put a chocolope in a DWC I threw together. Running Technaflora nutes just for fun. At 100ppm pH 5.7. The GH Cheese now has roots coming out the bottom of the 2 gal bucket...not bad for 7 days.

As you can see, it really is a mixed bag. I'm pretty sure I'm going to regret putting all those strains in a single res system...but I will be cloning every one of them for future posterity anyway. The two soil girls will likely go in my veg room before I flip to flower.

This morning the new transplants look great. More leaves emerged over night.

All seedlings look to be recovering right now. One, my White Widow, is still looking pretty pathetic. Oh well, can't win 'em all.
I forgot to mention, right now everything is bunched together under 1 1000w light which is up about 5 feet. I'm going to slowly lower it down over the next week, and once the light footprint get's small enough...or the plants need to be spaced out...I'll kick in the second 1000w.
I also switched my humidifier to 2 hours on, 2 hours off and off during the dark cycle (running 18/6). It's rainy lately and humidity had been going over 60% which I don't like. Want to keep it in the high 40's for now.

I've been unhappy with the FoxFarm nutes so far and decided to go with Technaflora in the ebb & grow as well. Dumped the res again tonight...boy is my RO system getting a good workout lately!

Started with RO water @ 0ppm. Used "Recipe for Success" for ratios.

Water Volume: 32g

Recommended dosages/gal:
B.C Boost – 3 tsp (15 ml)
B.C Grow – 1½ tsp (7.5 ml)
Thrive Alive B-1 Red – ½ tsp (2.5 ml)
MagiCal – ½ tsp (2.5 ml)
SugarDaddy – 2 tsp (10 ml)

I did the following(went with 1/5 strength to start, which should end up at 220ppm)
Boost = 32gal x 3.0tsp = 96tsp
Grow = 32gal x 1.5tsp = 48tsp
B1 Red = 32gal x 0.5tsp = 16tsp

5ml/tsp so I just changed the tsp to ml:
Boost = 96ml
Grow = 48ml
B1 Red = 16ml

This ended up at 260ppm which is a bit strange. Had I added the MagiCal and SugarDaddy it would be even higher. Oh well.

The DWC bucket I started up last night is doing well. The clone I threw in there had about 18" of roots which I managed to get through the netpot and nestled into hydroton. Today those roots have sprouted new runners and the close looks great. pH stayed rock solid and TDS crept up about 10ppm. Liking it so far!

The soil girls also look good. Maybe a little shock but not bad at all.

Thanks man, I hope I get it right too. I hate making newb mistakes, especially when I did so much reading ahead of time. Just didn't read the right posts I guess.

If nothing else, this grow will teach me a lot!

If there's any advice I can give you, since you have not grown in a while, and are new to hydro, keep the nutes simple, get used to your plants and or strains and the system its self. Those ebb & gro buckets work really well keeping it simple. I have a good buddy that has a 2k setup w/24 buckets and does floranova lucas, thats it! He pulls 1 1/2# per light of super heady smoke

Thanks for the tips dubbs! I almost learned the hard way about nutes. Dam near killed my babies by...gasp...following the instructions. Won't do that again! I'm hoping the simple Techna BC line will work well. Just Boost & Grow for veg, then Boost & Bloom for flower. A little awsome blossom as well if called for.

Quick update:

Just threw together another DWC bucket for my last clone. This little baby's been sitting in the cloner for 3 weeks and looks great with tons of roots. I wasn't going to do anything with it but couldn't throw it away.

Readings:

Ebb&Grow Res: 307ppm / pH 5.7
DWC1: 320 / pH 5.7
DWC2: 325 / pH 5.6

All are growing well with the exception of 2 clones in the E & G that look like they may not make it. My White Widow is still struggling to recover from the initial nute burn but its new growth looks better. Not sure if it will pull through. No biggie... The first DWC clone looks like it doubled in size over the last 24 hours! Lovin it.

Not much new to report. The pics show very clearly how bad the initial burn was, as well as how much better they are doing. Over the last couple days I started to notice some drooping right before the flood cycle. They were only getting two floods a day...I upped it to 4. Also showing a lack of nutes now with very light green growth. Tonight I increased nutes on the Ebb & Grow to 440ppm. I was shooting for 400 but miscalculated a bit. Decided to leave it as is and will just watch them carefully.

Tonight the E & G res reads 430ppm with no top off. They're eating! Slow increase over the next couple weeks. Will post some new pics in a few days to show growth rates.

Dam, it's been a while. The girls will be flipping over to flower tomorrow. I've taken a few clones and need to grab at least a couple from the rest before I make the switch.

The DF Diesel has turned out to be a show stopper! As of today, it was over 30" of plant, not counting the bucket. The "nodal" spacing is insane! It almost looks like it's in flower already the growth is so dense. I FIM'd it a couple weeks ago and now have at least 6 solid tops...had 6 solid tops. Took a couple as clones to try to slow it down some. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow...off to bed.

Cloning is complete and the light cycle is switched. I took pics but I'm too tired to post now, will get them up tomorrow. Got to really check all the girls out while taking clones and I'm really happy with the growth I've had so far. Gonna be a couple really tall ones that need some training early on but I expect a good harvest overall.

Sooo...I'm not so good with updates. Everything is going pretty good so far. Think they may still be hungry even with EC @ 2.0 as I'm still seeing some yellowing. I started flowering with an EC of 1.2 and the diesel showed deficiencies within a week. Up'd it to 2.0 about 1 week ago and they keep getting greener, but still seeing some yellow. Anyone have thoughts on that?

I suck at updating threads! Lot's has happened. Girls are doing well.

The yellowing got worse, come to find out it may have been light burn all along. Will get it right next time around. Yield will be affected but overall things are still going awesome. The GH Cheese is growing a cola that I drool on daily. Hope is doesn't mold!

Have to get my pics together but for now here's a trich shot from a bud a broke today while moving things around. This is off the GH Train Wreck. One fuzzy little bastard that plant is!
