the OP says the government is protecting us by creating better safety standards so they can oppress us longer
kind of changing the oil in your car regularly so you can drive it longer
everything that is made from man in a societal group will seem foreign to those who sit outside that social paradigm, but in fact these paradigms only exist in our minds as individuals

we can choose for the machine to be parasitic, apethetic or symbiotic or a combination in our contributions to our fellow man. thereof We dictate the synergies in our actions through action that is inspired through our interpreted experiences

I would of thought that the Bel Air would of done better, being one of those heavy old cars. It sure couldn't absorb energy worth a darn, that was so freaky how bad that car just moved the energy right through the passenger space.
Engineers have learned a lot, the hard way after many people not surviving their ride. I don't know why they didn't put more research earlier into safety, they didn't even have seat belts!
