I purchased an open ballast there long ago Hades, thanks for the link you cannot beat that deal! I happen to need 6 bulbs when this round is done and there is my answer, I will pick up a couple boxes at that price!

The Canadian cost for Hortilux has gone down to about $56/9 per bulb so retail will probably be around $79 CDN.

"Most commercial growers"? I doubt "most" even order 'em online.

When I was in the SFBay I used to pay $56-$60/ea at a retail shop, whether I bought 1 or multiple cases. That store sold 100+ Super HPS's in a day easily.

I think the store(s) pay something in the ballpark of $40 per.

I usually dont count cali as a American State,i think of it as A hippy terrorist state~ your right most i was referring to are medwest and back east and peeps in the pnw & down south that dont frequent hydro shops and prefer to avoid there hydroshops

Eye Hortilux and Eye Sunlux are the same exact light. I called Eye you can do it your self.. Hortilux is marketed to us the indoor hobby gardeners and the SunLux is the commercial version of the bulb.

From their data, they have different initial and mean lumens, different color rendering index and much different lamp mortality curves.

Their Spectral Dist. Curves are not the same either.

I'd say they are far from the exact same light. You must have talked to someone who didn't know what they were talking about.

Well I have used both and have not seen ANY difference in Yeild, quality, life span of bulb, etc.
also the lady I talked to didn't seem to know alot about the tech. specs. ,but said she has gotten calls about the same question.
If I have a choice I will pay for a cheaper bulb every time

Most of the times you wont see any difference. Now with some strains and grow styles you might see it but 95% of the times when I seen someone switch to a Super there was no difference.

A lot of people like to use the Hortilux for vegging as it has some blue in it, This way they don't have to buy a MH ballast/buld.

That makes sense, I have never used a HPS for vegg. I also use digital ballasts, so I have never had to get another MH ballast.

Plants vegged under a HPS (even Hortilux Super HPS) will look noticeably different than ones vegged under a MH of any kind.

I've seen/heard of people popping in MH bulbs into HPS ballasts all the time, though. (Doesn't work the other way around without modifications, though.)
