what is the best seed starter soil ? i used jeffy seed starter and my seedlings are a inch or two...i need some thing that will work... 15 days old

I use those everytime and they work great, are they getting enough light?

EDIT: I didn't see those right, sorry never used them. I use coco pellets, those work great.

try miracle potting soil, im at one month and one day, i have two plants that broke my old record for a months growth, there just under two feet tall, never had growth like this before, with the rest of my girls at around 1.5 ft and some at 1ft, all under low watt cfls!!! add a littel perlite and tb spoon of lime per gallon n call it a day. your plants look terrible for two weekers, not being neg on you as i feel bad but just telling u that something is very wrong.

never put your plants deep in a cup like that for one, u should of filled it to the top with medium or cut half the top of, it really stifles air circulation, plus drill holes not just on the bottom of those cups but all along the sides, the bottom holes arent enough for air circulation. hope this helps u.

and for the miracle grow haters, if it bums u out that a cheap convienant soil that can be gotten dam near anywere angers u, to bad, the shits dam near perfect right out of the bag, the texture and peat content is spot on, plants luv it!

1 part compost
1 part perlite
1 part coarse sand

all you will ever need for a seed mix.

you can buy a bag of fox farm light warrior for 15 bucks, MG for about 8 bucks, for seedlings it all works good as long as its not too hot... Those plants you got dont look good for being that old, they will live, but may not amount to much.... On the other hand when you transplant them they make up for it all....

constuction sand at any builders supply
Pool filter sand is the best, but cost more
Perlite is much better to use than any sand, except for outdoors in clay soil.

Ive been through a bunch of store bought soils. Nearly all seed starting mixes and potting soils for that matter are really too acidic,(6.2) for cannabis and only function at the most minimal level. I use a water soluble lime made by Epsoma and raise it up a little. The results are astounding. ALL need some perlite added to them. Most soils are designed for bigger pots and will become too compacted in a small cup.
Miracle grow is ok for growing plants but it can burn nute sensitive seedlings of strains like blueberry or sensi star which are 2 of my favorites.

You can spend 20 bucks for fox farm and others but thats too much for me. Ive found Sunshine Grow mix to be the best storebought soil around for starting seeds. The master grower for a large local nursery recommended it to me as its all they use. Turns out its the number 1 selling soil to greenhouse operations. If you have a local greenhouse/nursery, ask them what they use to start their cuttings/seedlings.

Ace hardware sells a brand called Supersoil which is also very good. Both work well right out of the bag, but add a little perlite to them.

And PBH is better than perlite if you can find some.

Caselvetro good tip he did plant them too deep in the cups.

Somkefrog- Wow gj with FFOF~ I used that stuff for seedlings and they were burned very badly! (pre leaves fell off). I've used those peat pots, and think they are the worst invention ever. The roots have a hell of a time punching through once you transplant, and you have to plant the pot since the roots go through it.

specs...uhh... its just sand. i collect it on my property in a dry stream bed. sift out the real fine stuff( and use that to add to my compost piles as rock powders), cost is free for me.

@nug-jug man i'm sorry about the burnt babies, that's horrible, i have 1 acapulco gold that did that, i figured it was the seed as none of the other acapulco gold's even popped out the ground =\

i gotta' agree on peat pots, man i destroyed a few sets of purchased beans, they'd be kicking it for a month and still not 1 little sprout out of any of them, tried 6 peat pots each time and nothing popped, i said screw it and just packed the tiny pots with ffof and popped a seed in, few days later i'm getting growth! i dunno', this seemed to work so i'll keep on keepin' on with the tiny pots and ffof
