Thinking about ditching my current carrer, was wonder what the pay is like with a Class B driver in particular dump truck driver.

not a clue, but I used to work with a guy that was a beer delivery guy and he told me, once everybody knows each other real well the accounting gets real loose. He was selling cases to club owners on the side and making 400 to 700 bucks a week extra in cash, but he hated it because rain or shine deliveries had to be made and it was difficult to take time off.

the pay depends on where you are. big cities - $15 -$25... the rest of the country $10 -$15.

per hour. get a union job if you can...

depends on the company , some companys will pay you by the load, others by the hour. Also depends on if you want to be independant and own your own truck , which will make you alot more money , however you have to make the repairs and fuel up on your own money, and with fuel prices so high and all the economy bs your prolly better off working for a company.

Was this 40 years ago? Seems to me that computer inventory systems would notice the inventory vanishing...

You will have piss tests for a job like this.

can you find/buy a road worthy dump truck yourself?
being the boss is so much better than earning for him.

Hmmm I might need to throw up a few more lights to be able to buy a dump truck.

I'd love to be a self employed dump truck driver, but really what Im shooting for is a union job, I know in my area the union and state jobs pay like 30 bucks an hour. I know plenty of union guys that burn so Im not sure how much drug testing is invovled in the trucking industry.

unions are corrupt, find a top dog there and offer to buy your way in, it's a tough economy so 2K ought to do it, for that 2K you expect to enter a step up from apprentice (or whatever the bottom rung is called) so that you come in @ the second tier pay level.

good luck

Going for a union truck driving job? Here's my best Teamsters joke:

You ask nicely, "So how many Teamsters does it take to change a light bulb?"
of course You'll get the standard "idk, how many?"
Put a menacing look on your face, raise your voice about 20 decibels & growl "Fifteen! You got a problem with that?!?!?!"
