Need info on strains with high(er) CBD levels/something that isn't "stoney"

Help! I am new to the MMJ realm-have "fibromyalgia"/and some kind of "undiagnosable" autoimmune disease= chronic pain/fatigue/insomnia. This all started post chemotherapy for breast cancer. I'm not sure I agree with the diagnosis, but I can't go on feeling like this and so far the MD's look at me like I am out of my mind/have no idea how to fix it.
I just got my MMJ card. My first experience was trying the edibles-some form of chocolate. I KNOW I am sensitive to "things", and I only ate 1/8th of the "dose" and was out to lunch for 2 days. I really am not a smoker-so would prefer oral administration. The GOOD news is it made my muscles relax-almost completely stopped the pain, BUT I can't sit on the couch and slobber all day.
This site had some GREAT info about 1 1/2 years ago on higher CBD level MJ, but the info seems to have dropped off. From what I have learned about THC/CBD, I need something with way less THC-higher CBD. I see references all over the place about strains with higher CBD levels but which ones are they??? Can you get higher CBD levels from the male plants?? Wondering if:

1) Someone confirm for me the stupid-slobbering part of my experience was the THC?
2) Suggestions on how to get the pain relief/help me sleep-skip the stone. I have to be on-call 24/7 for my job and I can't be "out to lunch"
3) How do you get consistent dosing? The "Lemonaide" drink-things from the Farmacy are better, but I can only tolerate 1-2 tablespoons of them/can't tell what they use to make them, and they still make me stupid for > 24hours.

I have been SO impressed with this site-good MEDICAL discussions!!!

IF I missed the info-apologies-there is lots here to look at.

:thank you:

It is my understanding that with THC there are more than 12 different compounds, or kinds of THC. The varying levels, however minuscule, combine in different ways for different but similar experiences. It has been my experience that cannabis with higher levels of CBD are more "couch-lock."

Indica strains will almost always have a higher level of CBD. As I understand the science behind that, Indica's are from a latitude that experienced a greater variation in light cycles and drier summer months. This led to a shorter flowering period for the Indica variety compared to it's more equilateral cousin the Sativa. Since the Indica blooms quicker it produces the THC compounds (designed to protect the reproductive organs from harmful radiation) early on and this leads to an earlier degradation of THC to CBD.

I REALLY hope I'm right about this. It's been some time since I've read my THC science book.

Genetics play their role, but also environmental and growth period factors have an influence on CBD. A longer growth period will allow for a higher concentration of CBD. This allows a Sativa which would normally have 0.01% CBD or less to have CBD levels that compare with the stoniest Indica's.

Based on my experience with pot CBD does help relax muscles more than high THC content. CBD also gives me the MAD munchies and after coming down from a long day of smoking a high CBD strain I often suffer a kind of "need-a-nap-headache." When eating my meds I do notice they are more gradual, and I hit a point where I wonder if I'm high still. Then 2 more hours go by and I realize just how baked I was.

The different kinds of Sativas really seem to all have very different characteristics with their highs. Generally speaking though they are more of an uplifting, soaring kind of high where you almost feel "out of body." This has always been my choice when trying to escape from pain or stress. To just lighten up but without the real drag down.

For you I personally think you should have both kinds of buds. By blending two strains together in slightly different ratios you'll be able to medicate both the tension and the pain without too much of a couch lock. So you'll want an old-vine Indica for the heavy body stone, and an expertly grown Sativa for the uplifting high. Cooked goods require a fair amount of heat, which changes the chemical makeup of the meds, usually increasing the level of CBD.

You may want to try the alcohol tincture as another method of dosing yourself. These don't require much heat to create so they can have a different effect than cooked goods. Also, way lower in the calorie department (like 1/8 of a cookie is that bad).

Hi,
Thanks! The most frustrating part is WHAT strains should I try??? The number of strains is absolutely daunting, and I would like to narrow the search as much as possible. Has anyone out there tested cloned strains and has this info??
THANKS!!!!

here is an excerpt from some of the best and most recent info:

Surprisingly, six strains with buds ranging from 5% to 7% CBD by weight have been detected in the year since Steep Hill analytic lab began testing samples from dispensaries and individual growers. Only two of these high-CBD strains have been made available to patients -and only intermittently, as the pounds delivered by the growers sell out in a day or two. “Soma A-plus” has been dispensed at Harborside Health Center in Oakland, and “Pineapple Thai” at Herbal Solutions in Long Beach. The other four strains are being grown out as clones and should be available by spring 2010 to collectives wishing to dispense them.

Have you ever tried vaporizing?

I would suggest getting a Blueberry clone by the breeder DJ Shorts. He only breeds 'feel good' herb and bb is a 50/50 mix of sativa/indica and so should be quite medicinal without knocking you out!

Introduce yourself down in the DJ section...you'll get a warm welcome and good advice from some seriously kind and knowledgeable folk!

Well, you need to break it down. You probably need to use atleast 2 different strains. One for insomnia, and one for pain IMO.

For the pain of Fibro I would look at Mandala's Satori or Sadhu , they both also can aid in sleep.

For sleep Gypsy sells an awesome White Rhino.

Another great sleep is the old school Romulan.

Most med-users that have never really used cannabis, and have no desire to smoke it, usually end up vaporizing or ingesting the meds.

You must self-titrate to discover what dose works for you. A lot of it is trial and error. Eventually you will find something that is just right for you.

There are medicinal and recreational doses for most people. My medicinal dose sends the wife sky-high for hours, yet I am completely functional, pain free, and if you did not know I was high, you could not tell.

Seriously though, since you are legal the shop should be able to guide you in the correct direction, at least that is what a good shop will do, and there are some bad ones out there.

DJ's 'Blueberry' (not 'True Blueberry') is 80% indica, and would put her on the couch I guarantee.

"We developed Blueberry from different new genetic lines, genetics that are unique to Europe. Not only Blueberry, but also Blue Velvet and Flo are developed from totally new genetics. These seed strains are of the highest quality and have not been grown in Europe before. Blueberry is a mostly Indica (80% Indica, 20%Sativa) strain, that dates to the late 1970's. A large producer under optimum conditions. A dense and stout plant with red, purple and finally blue hues, that usually cure to a lavender blue. The finished product has a very fruity aroma and taste of blueberry. It produces a notable and pleasantly euphoric high of the highest quality and is very long lasting. Medium to large calyxes. Blueberry has a long shelf life, stores well over a long period.
Flowering Period: 45-55 days
Height: 0.7-1m

3) How do you get consistent dosing? The "Lemonaide" drink-things from the Farmacy are better, but I can only tolerate 1-2 tablespoons of them/can't tell what they use to make them, and they still make me stupid for > 24hours.

Making a tincture at home and adding it to your beverage of choice is probably the best IMO. Search for Green Dragon, or THC tinctures for recipes/how-to.

The key though is that you have to test the dose on yourself little bit at a time.

TexasToker - Good point! That said...I have yet to hear or experience a DJ strain that is so one dimensional as to 'put someone down'. Even his indicas are up^!

Blue Moonshine (supposedly his most indica hash plant variety) reportedly has much more to it than just 'couch lock'...

Thanks for the info!!! So far I haven't found a "good shop". My requests for info have been met with blank stares.....kinda frustrating, but you have given me some good information to peruse. I was pretty sure that I would need to figure this out, but was fearful that I would be to stoned to try.

You didn't say where you are from but judging from your experience with the blank stare, I'm guessing CA. In the beginning most shops at least pretended to be 'medical' but now experiences like yours are more common.

I would encourage you to email Harborside or visit if you are near Oakland or San Jose. I have not been there yet but I have heard good things and last week one of my favorite shows had an interview with the founder and he actually discusses cbd testing. It is called 'Visionary Activist with Caroline Casey' on KPFA Berkeley. The Harborside show is archived on the KPFA website if you are interested, it originally aired March 18, 2010 - 2:00pm

The Visionary Activist- Plant Co-Operators Are Standing ByCaroline and the waxing exalted Equinox Moon welcome back Stephen DeAngelo, Director of the Harborside Health Medical Cannabis Center in Oakland and San Jose...that we humans may come back into mannered cahoots with the rest of creation.

I have fibromyalgia. Here's a plant I have been lookng at Notice the THCV compound which I am curious about:

Malawi Gold is internationally renowned as one of the most potent psychoactive pure African sativas. Afropips’s Superior first grade Malawi Gold was selected from 10 years experience with top Malawi growers for the spiciest taste & the most psychoactive clean vibrant high. The high is long lasting & has an enjoyable alert mental clarity coupled with a warm pleasant feeling that radiates throughout the body. The unique tropical & luxuriant spicy sativa up high can be attributed to the presence of THCV in this early cultivated strain.

Unfortunately I live in Colorado- the focus here is how high can you get. I WISH I was in California for the first time in my life. The people at Harborside seem to have the best grip on this-and NO they can't help me-already tried that.

Wouldn't the Sativa fuel the sleep issues??? I tried some edibles last night("dose is 1.1gm"- I ate about 1/16th of it) -pain was OK, but I didn't sleep AT ALL!!

This is SO frustrating to feel like you are SO close to figuring it out, but could spend the next 10 years finding the second half of the equation. Sleep-deprived/Stoned. Which would you choose?

While I may be sounding cranky- I really do appreciate the help!

Go to Denver Patient's Group. I just talked to my sister who lives in Boulder and said that Denver shops are more 'medical' than Boulder's.

She said that the staff at DPG is superior to any others she has been to.

Find yourself some Sweet Tooth and try that out for size, seems to be popular out there in CO. The genetics are based upon "Sweet Pink Grapefruit x DJ Short's Blueberry" and it was made by Breeder Steve of Spice of Life seeds. It should be very useful to you as it is not too potent but definitely will help you feel good and relax, when I eat it's resins as an edible it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over my body and puts me to sleep if I decide to drift off. Otherwise it's just a very nice overall "good feeling" and none of the annoying or distracting effects some others strains can have. Definitely no paranoia and very little if any anxiety from it either. Very positive herb and good anti-depressant qualities too. :joint:

Check this out:

http://www.coloradomedicalmarijuana.com/medical-marijuana-for-sale.htm

Some of them have Sweet Tooth listed as one of the strains they stock. ;)

Thanks !!!!!
Another question...there seems to be some difference of opinion as to whether its better to make tinctures or make butter with the plants. Any thoughts??

I REALLY appreciate the help!!

Still haven't hear a word from the Denver Patients Group-have emailed twice/left phone messages (multiples). They make you "join"-fill out paperwork. Don't know how long it takes for them to return calls but getting a tad frustrated. Maybe they are just to busy. Will keep trying...... <playing tune from Jeopardy> dum-de-dum-dum-dum-de-dum..

Soma A+

Soma A+

You need to order some Soma A+ seeds from Dr Cronic, that strain has tested out at 3% to 7% CBD it's pretty much the only strain you can get in seed form with high CBD everything else is clone only at least for now. I live in Vegas and I don't like THC as it gives me anxiety so I tracked down a strain called Pineapple Thai that you can only get at Herbal Solutions in Long beach and I just drove there and had someone I know pick up the clone for me and I am growing it out right now.

It's also hard to get the right dose with eatables, just spring for an iolite vaporizer from got vap for $250 it's portable and does not hurt your lungs or smell up the house when you use it. Good luck I know how you feel, I have been to 20 doctors and the only DX I have gotten is cronic fatigue and trying precription meds nearly killed me, never again!

For pain tincures are hard to beat. Fast acting and easy to use. I prefer a mid-grade Indy for pain, and a pure Indy for sleep. So, the old Afghan lines work for me.
