Great thread!
Males are often over looked, even though they are 1/2 of the breeding process.
great pics!
Thanks for highlighting this topic.

why's this thread so inactive? males are interesting plants.
here's my Nirvana Papaya male, complete with some late female flowers. This one smells unbelievable, far more dank than any of the females so far. Like rotting-sweet-dank-mangos. Used him to chuck some pollen for some beans, hit 2 papaya girls with different phenos, and an amazing acquired-in-maui sativa bagseed that im growin for the first time with some of his pollen. :joint:
at about a week into flowering:

more recently, note the female flowers on top:

droppin some pollen:

peace.

So since we're on the topic of males, is there any way one can determine if a male is worthless to be used for breeding or not?

ya know i have no idea.i wish some one could explain these things to me .unfortunatley i learn from doing not reading...so i am trying to get all of this down.i imagine its going to be a lot of trial and error learning what males will be used best for what traits.i guess my issue is that any male or female can also have dormant traits and the only real way to see what they will give or take away from my project is growing them out in many generations.i just used a nl male to pollinate a few of dna's strains.hopefully we will end up with something good.if not always got more beans that i have and want to try out.always looking for that holy grail...lol

I just selected a breeding male from my Flo incrosses - now called 'MoFlo'. There's a lot more in my Flo breeding thread, but here's a few pics - this one has one female branch with six seeds that I'm just waiting to finish off. It also has purple parts and lots of trichomes... :chin:

hello all, i was just curious if anyone knew what the seeds from this plant would end up being? also what would the pollen be like, would it be ok to use? thanks.
:thank you:

the answer, from my limited experience and from those with way more experience and expertise is: YES! reverse hermie males are sometimes the most desirable pollen bearing plants. plus, i find selecting them easier since the female parts of the plant show traits that are easier to read for desirability - ie. more resin, etc.

check out my flo thread: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=3622084#post3622084 lots of talk about males and reverse hermies in there...
