Help! Yellow tips on new Lifesaver sprouts!

I need help with my first grow. I started with a few random bag seeds that I got from a friend of which 10 popped. Then I popped 5 of my BOG Lifesaver. 2 of the 10 randoms have survived because I think it got too hot at one point. All 5 of the Lifesaver are still doing good but have started to develop yellowing of the leaves on the tips. I have stabilized the temp 68-72F and humidity 40-50. The soil I used is compost I got from an organic shop. I have been watering them every other day trying to make sure not to over water. I have 3 WalMart flouros that I keep about 4 inches above the soil and a fan the blows air across the top. I leave the lid to the rubbermaid box half way on so that they get good ventilation. Any advice would be appreciated for this novice! Thanks!

Sorry for the bad pics. All I have is an iPhone. :ying:

I have a tent with 400w MH and HPS on the way. How soon can I put them under the big light?

You need to be able to gauge your pH. Most soil mixes need dolomitic lime to buffer the pH as well as provide Mg. Looks like you have tip burn, the compost may be over-ferted for seedlings. You don't need anything but water for the first couple weeks usually.

You can put them under the big light as soon as you want. How far you distance it from the canopy is up to the plants. I'd let em go at least a couple weeks under the fluoros unless it's too small for the job. You'll probably need a couple of feet of distance if you use the big light now.

Disco is right, you have nute burn. First things first, don't over react with love. I would suggest repotting the plants in a mix with no nutrients.

That organic mix is full of nutrients. You need to be in something simliar to promix, like seed starter or something. Otherwise, every time you water you are basically fertilizing. The plants you have there are 2 weeks away form needing any fertilizer, so if you chose not to repot this will continue to burn your plants, causing stress, stunting their growth, and having a chance to kill them.

It doesn't look horrible but it is enough to cause alarm.

Should you chose to repot, make sure the pots are dry and be very gentle, take your time.

The tips are like that cause yout soil sucks brother. Put them in some sunshine #4 and use Advance Nutrients for nutes with it. Put the plants in slithly bigger pots but not the final pots your going to use. Straight water for the next week to two weeks. Start the lights high and lower them over 5 or 6 days to the lowest they can be by holding your hand under for 1 minute cause the heat builds up. Then its Hydrogen peroxide at 3ml/gal with just water feeding and mollasess at a table spoon/ gallon everyday with nutes .The H202 oxygenates and cleans out your roots including good micro b's but the you replace them with the mollasess. If you dont use the sunshine then at least airate your soil with some perlite and vermiculite. AN recommends Sunshine with their ferts though. You need a ph and ec meter. PH should be around 6-6.5. Oh and keep things fairly moist for now dont let them dry out.

Also, careful with the iphone pictures, if your gps is on there is a program you can use to find the exact gps cordinates where the picture was taken. I am not an expert but I do believe iphones could be at risk for that. Dont freak out but, you could read about it and find otherwise, but fair warning. There is a thread here on IC, probably in the security section all about it.

Thanks for the replies! I was afraid it was the soil. I have a new mix on order from htg. As far as my iphone, its a first gen without gps so hopefully I am good to go.

What would be the best way to transplant these ladies into a new and bigger pot? ...(knowing that the soil they are in now is not good)

Does the htg mix have ferts? You might be jumping from the pan to the fire. Just kidding. You'll need non-ferted mix for the first few weeks. You might get away with trace nutes but water's all you need. It's tough transplanting seedlings as the root ball hasn't had the chance to form. Judging from the pics you didn't use perlite so that should work in your favor. Just turn the pot upside down and gently coax the dirt ball out of the pot. Success lies in keeping the dirt ball intact and root stress to a minimum.

Sometimes dry dirt balls hold together easier and sometimes it's the opposite. If you think the dirt ball is gonna fall apart in your hands, slide it back in the pot and try a little water to hold it together. Even if it breaks apart it doesn't mean your plant will die. Just do the best you can and learn from the experience.

Put some new dirt in the larger pot, estimating how much room you need for the seedling/dirt ball. Have it ready before you remove the seedling from the old pot. Gently lay the seedling/dirt ball on top of the new dirt. Fill in the void with new dirt w/o packing down too much. A gentle press is enough.

Dirt will compact in the grow pot and roots will have a tough time. Get some perlite to mix in the dirt at about 20 to 25% and it'll pack less. You'll probably also need dolomitic lime to buffer the pH of the dirt, usually one tablespoon lime per gallon of soil.
