Loaded or unloaded, is there a difference?

good thread because ive always wondered about this...i hunt, and shoot at the range...own a black rifle that would scare that pants off most liberals....EOtech, forward grip, all that nice military shit..its LEGAL though, ALL my guns are legal and in my name, and i keep them in a big ass safe inside their rifle cases. The only gun i have not in a safe is a little .22LR plinker and my Glock .40sw, always loaded.

My grow aint legal so ive always wondered if i would get fucked because of the guns.

Someone i know just got busted at a 500 plant grow with a loaded shotgun, not sure of the details exactly, but last i heard they dropped the marijuana charges but are still seeking gun charges, so many his shotgun was illegally sawed off or something.

I shoot in USPSA/IPSC games and have some pretty specialized gear myself. SV's and STI's, a JP 18" .223 rifle w M-dot, Benelli M2, etc. I stash an 870 in the growroom and it's accessible in about 5 seconds, though you'll never find it if you looked forever! I keep my race guns & reloading gear locked up at the office. When I lived in Vegas I used to open carry my G35 with 3 20rd mags and 1 in the gun just about everywhere I went. I even wore it to the hydrostore I worked for;) maybe you seen me.. After a shootout, you never know whats next...

km I'm with you. I'm not going to reject my rights to protect myself after what I been through. I just know that since I already have a misdemeanor firearms charge, they catch me with numbers and a gun. thats it for 5 years, and my gun rights are capuut.. I spent $15k last time to plead guilty and reserve my gun rights. I don't think I have much for a second chance.

^ouch man, i would stash em at a trusted friends spot, or bury them somewhere, and just get a couple baseball bats and a nice tazer.

Unfortunately, there is no "misdemeanor" plant # down here. They'll lock you up for a single joint in a heartbeat.

And this is the huge difference that what state you're in makes.

I live in one of the best states as far as "gun control" goes. No license or registration required, the only thing is sale of handguns are required to be recorded. Open carry and concealed carry allowed, no licenses needed. Our constitution provides to right to bear arms not only to defend the state, but to defend yourself as well.

But... I'm not going to be the one to test it. There's no misdemeanor number of plants here, and even though I have a right to bear arms... I don't trust the system. I do own guns, but I do not keep them on the premises of my grow.

If they see the gun as a defensive weapon for the grow, they will call it that.

If they see it as a hobby/target gun, they will probably be more likely to "push it aside" to a degree.

Also I imagine it depends on what state you live in.

Also, you better make damned sure you dont have any friends that are felons walking around in the house because it would be accessible to them and thats illegal for them, I dont know how that effects you other then it looks bad.

Why should you have security issues? Who did you brag to? Also, you better be careful you dont pull a gun on intruders when it turns out to be a raid. Its just dangerous.

I would lock it up and count it as a possible option if you can get to it. Have one key. Learn how to retrieve it quickly. Anything can become second nature, and you'll react accordingly if you need it.

Your number one defense is DONT TELL ANYONE.

I dont know if there is a law about loaded vs unloaded guns during criminal activity. I really wouldn't be surprised if there is an enhancement. And I know for a fact it looks worse.

BTW, its a magazine, not a clip.

Why do I have security issues? Because I live in the united states, do I need to say more?
Has nothing to do with someone knowing about a grow.
Open your local paper and go to the police reports section and look at the number of burglaries each month.
Houses get robbed everyday, and I would like to be able to mount a decent defense in the unlikely event it happens to me.

Well then thats fine... I have no problem with that.

Either way, the cops are still going to inevitably think it was a grow gun because you were growing.

I would lock it up during the day (definitely when you leave the house) and unlock it at night for the night. Keep the lock out on your bed side near the gun, with the key in it.

also, you can leave some cleaning supplies out next to it and keep it fresh looking every day and you can say you were just bout to clean it and you usually keep it locked.

You dont want them thinking its a grow gun. Even a defensive gun because they will more often then not try and make you look like a gangster, to some degree.

Thanks for the suggestions.
That's what I'm looking for.

I agree, I just don't want to get caught with the damn thing.
Anyone has some super sweet hiding suggestions that they don't want to go public with PM me please.
I have a pretty good spot now, but not good enough that I'd bet 5 years on it

99% of the time people with illegal grows shouldnt have a gun of any kind in their house. The big question is how can a man protect his home without firearms? The crossbow idea i like alot. Any other suggestions?

I know my dog would be ready to throw down in the case of a home invasion. So dogs are good. Ive also thought about getting one of these stickers and placing them on my doors. Almost seems too suspicious though.

When I used to live in a sketchier area, I had an ice axe & german Shepard. Getting hit with an ice axe would do a lot more immediate harm than a baseball bat. Tasers work well also, have a friend that got tase the fuck out of a would be thief.

Five year's felony tacked onto any crime committed with a gun found loaded or not. They seem to charge you with it to make you try and plea 1 count away and still stick you with original crime and all other counts.

sorry but I would talk with an attorney.

I was asked a few times at certain bars to put my gun away. a bouncer even asked me to conceal it. I locked it in the car. I was up at the palms ghostbar open carry and security said "nice piece!" it was a $3200 hard chromed custom SV, so it kinda demanded some attention or respect lol. I had a pair of cops walk up to me at a gas station while filling up. they just saw my raced out glock and retention holster n asked if I shoot weekends at desert sportsman IPSC club.. http://www.icmag.com/ic/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=428474&ppuser=22454
