hello all,

i am going to the local hydro store and i wanted to pick your brains about cloning gels/liquids,i have a DIY bubble cloner, and have done pretty well with not solution at all,but i want some input on what is considered the best out there,i don't require a large number of clones, and my bubbler is kinda noisey,so i'm looking for a solution that works equally as well in rapid rooters or my bubble cloner, mabye someone here has done a side by side comparison of different formulas? ok hope to hear back from people in the know, feel free to point me in the direction of threads/grows with examples as well, thanks alot in advance

I can say they all work. I personally use hormex, or vita boost (formerly woods) these are solutions that absorb into the tissues instead of just coating the area, where aeroponic misters or water submersion will pretty much just remove the gels or powders out there. I do sometimes mix clonex gel in my water, and in root riot plugs, I take a turkey baster and just drop a blob on each hole. I use root riots because they have a tiny hole and you want to seal it up around the base of the clone. rapid rooters arent as dense, they don't hold enough water and the hole is huge. I end up taking a nail and making my own holes in rapid rooters. I also like the fact that clonex root riots already have clonex in them, and are square in shape. ever seen a 50 or 72 cell rooting insert w round holes?? I believe this helps lock in moisture, and block out any light to rooted cuts.

Clonex & Olivia's have always 'worked' for me w gels...

Honestly though, Dip&Grow is hella cheap & easy & worked just as well for me... a liquid dip... that doesn't go bad/ineffective on the shelves as gels do very often.

Some report no differences w/wout gel or dip, so...?

One thing that I can swear by is Roots Excelerator by H&G... haven't a strike fail to DO ever since using it.

Just my 2cents ;-)

Any IBA, NAA solution will do. I like Hormex as it's commonly available outside of hydro stores. I'm not worried about cops seeing me, I don't want my neighbors seeing me coming out of a hydro shop.

At the Dip 'n Grow web site they offer a product called DipGel which you use with the Dip & Grow liquid to turn it into a gel. It's about $16.00 per lb. and will do gallons and gallons of rooting gel.

I took 6 trays of clones once. I tested 3 with clonex and 3 with just water. the water rooted faster. For some reason I kept using clonex though. I dont know why.

I have also used dip n grow.

I think your biggest challenge is switching cloning methods. Do not give up on the bubbler. ALOT of people have trouble cloning in trays, etc. Its just different environemnts etc. Try it and see if it works before ditching the bubbler.

I used root riots the last year and they worked well.

Do not give up on the bubbler.

Used "correctly" (plain water, naked stems) my bubbler has killed everything I put in it. Used "incorrectly" (Hormex, gel and rockwool) 100% success.

In my pre bubbler beginnings, it took me months to get a single root. So, while one may want to give up on bubblers, or vermiculite or jiffy plugs or... don't give up on cloning. To the beginner, it can easily seem like Voodoo. What saves me may kill you dead (Domes are a prime example, many say they're required, others say they're death incarnate)

Just keep trying and tweaking until a method works for you. If you got roots, you did it "right" no matter what you did.

,, needing clones to root is a thing of the past these sides,, if they root they root,, jah bless dem :rasta:

When there was no clonex or the bottle ran dry,, we normally mixed it with tap water,, and then used tap water.. lol and still got the same rooted return back,, much of which is down to the genetics you're working with... sativa dom varieties root easier overall :joint:

Hope this helps

I thought H&G RE was to be used once roots are present. I find that a PK booster will root shit pretty quickly too. I usually give my plants lucas formula after a week and the roots bust like crazy.

Yeah the H&G was for accelerated root growth,, not rooting as such,, but it had the same effect in an NFT system :joint:

The clonex worked better when it was brown before they changed it to blue IMO :canabis:

I use a small water pump, driven 5 milimetrs below the surface no cloning gels/liquids , no ph up/down only pure water from pipe ph around 7.3 temps 25 celzij , roots in 6 days 100% success.
