I use home-made collars made from soda cans - they work pretty well but not 100%.
It's a good idea to supplement with slug pellets - they kill pretty well but you need to use quite a bit of it.

A cheap yet 100% effective method for prevention is to pour 1 cup of construction sand around the base of your plant. Snails and slugs cant cross it because the grains of sand get stuck in their mucous and kills them. They WONT cross it under any circumstances, ever.

I pour on 1 cup at transplant and then refresh it a couple of times over the next month or so. Usually 3 cups total prevents any snail/slug damage. A 40 lb bag of construction sand is usually about $3 and will treat approximately 60 plants for the season.

No chemical taste.

I am curious to know if anyone has tried nematodes, about £15 a go i think so more expensive than sand. My veg garden gets ravaged by slugs, the year before last they ate everything.

biodegradable washing powder works like sand. the fckers cant get past it.

BEER! Flat beer or leftovers whatever u have. The slugs climb in the container for a lil drink a drown in beer! A glourious death :D

Slug bait and copper shavings work pretty good, if you put out plants that are fairly big already the slugs won't phase them too bad. They will decimate little ones in the spring here.

Copper tape works 100%. I get some stuff locally that's 2" wide and wrap it around the base of each plant and leave an inch overlap so.
