Yeah man lets see some pics.. !!!! I'd like to see what you're workin with.. I love being in my basement.. I dont mind smaller buckets.. and plenty of work... but thats just me.. Kinda makes me feel like I have a full time job sometimes. lol

I transferred mine into the net lids I have and within a week the roots were coming out the sides... My blues right now are crazy I aint seen no root growth like that.. but then again this is only my 1st time in hydro

No roots sticking out like I said, but I'm hopeful. They don't look stressed too bad right?
Next, the blueberry clones and 7 bagseeds

Finally finished buckets/ the reason for this thread...
nixpix104.jpg

So that's the setup. I never planned on flowering that many at once(the Blueberry and the Maui were taken from different sources on very short notice...)So my buds are not getting as dense as I would like...

Those buckets look nice very nice craftsmanship and your other tent pics look great aswell kudos to you. :D The tent you have you purchased? or built? And if bought, dimensions and price would be valuable info for me thanks. Is there any middle pvc supports in the tent or just like one big cube?

Bought the big one. 76" cubed. lil' over 150 bucks. The frame is all metal, no pvc, but yes there is a middle support along with a bunch of other stabilizer/support rods. I was thinking about splitting the tent so I could veg and bloom in it but I can't seem to figure out a good way to do so.....

Wow right on thanks, I was lookin to get a tent too 76 inches, round $180 on ebay.. but I dont know if its worth it or not..

Well you seem to be a better craftsman then I.. I'm sure you can figure something bout that wall in ya tent... I'd prolly just panda plastic the shit out of it with some ducting tape lol

That was of course my first thought... The tent really is easy to set up and break down though and I would hate to destroy that aspect of it, so I'm trying to plan something light proof but easily removable. Does that even make sense?

On a happy note, One of the St's from the mini bub has one long root sticking out. Perfectly clean and perfectly straight so I'm thinking its a new one! Hoping I can get them in the 5 gallon buckets soon so they can really beast. Just for the record, and cause I love this pic, here is the kola of the ST3 those two clones were cut from(last harvest)-

(I know I have posted it before in another link, but I only got that one pic of her after trimmed....Sorry)

Lol yeah man that makes sense.. thats the one thing that sells me on the tent its mobility...

Heck yeah man you'll be surprised at the root growth I know I was after trying soil..

Nice pics too I love looking at pretty medication. :D

Keep up the great work!!

Any opinions on using an entire (less than dense) harvest to make hash with bubble bags? I only ask because I have a lack of light penetration at the moment, so my buds are not getting fat but have great resin production... I plan on getting bubble bags for my trim anyway, and a larger light first of course, but these won't get the chance to benefit fully from that wattage upgrade so most likely will not get as thick as desired.... So I was thinking good hash. Bad idea/ Waste of herb?

That's what I do... the hash definitely reflects the quality of the chop you use. I did a batch from my first grow last year that was all Whiteberry chop.. got some absolutely greasy stinky hash.. it was delicious..

mgk :tiphat:

As long as you're not throwing it away I dont think its a waste at all..Its a great idea!! My 1st harvest I had tons of under developed growth on the bottom didnt get enough light.. When it came time to trim I just chopped all those lil buds right off in the trim for hash :D

Yeah I think I'm just gonna do that. Plan on ordering the bubble bags soon anyway... I just did the first flush on my Maui, I don't know the flower time and I am sure it'll be an early harvest, but it smells TOO good & also brought white flies with it(I'll never take someones plant to save it again, I never had pests before this....) that havnt spread so I figured I'll just cut it down in a lil' over a week. Also thinking about taken all the under-developed buds from my ST's( add to trim for hash) so the kola's can bulk up.

I know these are not the best idea's but, I cant get a bigger light right now and I want thick kola's and a nice first run in the bubble bags, so this seems to solve my problems.
If the Maui hadn't brought uninvited guests I would definitely finish her off, but she was free and I don't want white flies spreading so an early cut is still a come up for me....

Hello all,

I created this in a new thread called " DWC mod ideas"

Good luck Williebetmore.

As for my op, the mini veg bucket is beasting roots out now! should not be long before I get to do my first hydro flower! Also, I just got chain so I could drop my lights down for more penetration. Choppin' the Maui next Sunday, Pics of all the happenings updated then......

Nice buckets yoda, I run 5gal DWC buckets that look almost exactly the same. For the water level viewer I used 90degree barbs with a female threaded end and then a male adapter screwing into them from the inside of the bucket. I put some stick-on aquarium thermometer strips on the outside (although I'm not sure how accurate they are really. I also used plasti-dip spray-on rubber coating on the lid to mitigate any direct light; the buckets seem thick enough to handle any indirect/ambient light though. I also cut a section out of part of the ring up top so the viewer could be placed higher. One improvement that I would like to make on any future buckets is to have the water viewer only go down about half way, the way I look at it is that the water shouldn't ever be that low anyway so there's no practical difference for me between 10% full and 15% full; this way if the lower barb springs a leak then only about half of the liquid will leak out instead of most.

I recently transferred a plant from coco/perlite medium into DWC with 100% hydroton. The roots were pretty well established so I was confident that it could withstand small shocks such as that. I didn't feel the need to thoroughly wash the roots off; if some coco or perlite got into the bucket then it would just be thrown out with the next nute change anyway, and the less I handled the roots the less stress right?

Somebody mentioned the actual amount of liquid you will fit in the 5gal buckets. I run my buckets without the lids snapped down and with the same 6 inch net-pots that it looks like you have. With the liquid filled up so that it's barely touching the bottom of the net-pot they hold 3.75 gallons / 14.2 liters / 480 fl. oz.

I didn't go for the ball-valve for draining though, it seemed like it would get in the way too much and I was also paranoid about it starting to leak since you would be fiddling with it all the time. I want to move to RDWC when I'm ready, but having a way to drain the buckets would be a major plus, does it seem sturdy enough for regular use without leaking?

2nd question: How did you cut out the holes for your net-pots? I just traced them and used a box cutter, but the resuslts have been mixed. If I could get a 6 inch hole saw for a reasonable price that would be great, but it's just not worth it for as few buckets as I imagine making in the future.

Buckets !!!!

Buckets !!!!

 Hi All! Very good bucket design......:dance013:

Tried to keep things simple, and cheap and functional, with GOOD results......5gal Black bucket=$6.00, 3gal insert bucket=$4.00, 2 drill
bits various sizes $12.00, Hydroton=$30.00, 6"cubes=$2.50ea,ro water
$.25 a gal, and ferts free samples from local Hydro store, 1 commericial
air pump $70.00, and air stone=$30.00, air pumps for the farm kits=$45
Farm kits=$12.00 ea.....Drill holes in the insert bucket for farm kit and
drainage, fill with rinsed Hydroton (use ro water for rinse ph 5.8),do not
use tap water to rinse,.even though it says to......takes awhile to rinse GOOD!.....fill insert with Hydroton,so the 6" cube sets just under the farm kit ring....Here's a pic....plant in bucket start, and later look
how it GREW!!!:jump:.....DJ Short True Blueberry...5 yrs old.....

AK-51 - I went with the bigger, thicker, ball valve. that way when I twist the handle, I can hold the entire piece by the bottom to keep it from feeling the torque of the twisting.
For the holes in the lid for the net pot (5.5", not 6")I just traced the top and made some calls to find a jigsaw, no one could help me out so I just cut it with a razor blade. Worked perfect for me, wouldn't suggest it for anyone though, take the time to find the right tool...

Also I wish you would have posted before I drilled my holes cause that is a great idea you have about the level meter, I totally should have made it much shorter and located only towards the top.

BudZad7- how is that commercial pump working out for you? is it strong enough to be split between a couple flower buckets and maybe still bubble a cloner??? Nive looking BB too! Can't wait for mine to start bulking up. it's huge though, and I just dropped my lights lower to finish off my other girls so I might have to wait a couple weeks to see her get going strong.

Greenwithenvy- How is your set up working for you? Pro's/Con's type thing? Just like to know what I am getting myself into... Gotta finish off these soil ladies so I can get the buckets into full swing!

heh, yeah, me too. I have like 9 or 10 buckets and I didn't think of that until after I had made the last one.

As for the holes for the 6" net-pots, I do the same thing. I have a couple lids that have holes for 9 of the 2" net-pots, a hole saw worked fine for cutting those out. Those work well for seedings and clones.
