Yellow Electrical tape on my electric meter

Ok.... so it is now grass watering season and as i was watering i noticed yellow electrical tape wrapped around the tube that comes from the ground up into the meter.

I for sure as hell didnt do it myself.

the tape wraps around the tube quite a few times and there's a small piece of tape put up under the glass around the dial...

Anyone know wtf this is? Please tell me I am being paranoid for no reason

It's probably a tamper-proofing type of thing. Kinda like the stickers they put on computer cases to void the warranty if they're opened..

That's my guess anyways.

I've been here for awhile... although i dont often take a look at the meter.... I know it was not there when i first moved in.

and also if i were to take it off, it wouldn't be hard to wrap it again with tape...

HELP, paranoia is startin to kick in

ya dude, i dont know about that.....

yellow electrical tape and all.........

might be a super sophisticated listening device that can hear your thoughts and there being transmitted straight to the local police chiefs ear!!!

this is something to be very afraid of.........

i would go and put the aluminum foil hat back on................

that crazy yellow electrical tape, you know it cant be reasoned with? right? run...run, very fucking fast.........

some1 fuckin with my meter is enough concern for me to ask around... I aint even tryin to argue with you so watever mayn.

hey wat it- i think your in all right s to be suspicious- as i say i may be paranoid but it doesnt mean they aint out to get me- either way its never a bad idea to be too paranoid when it comes to this- i doubt anyone would use such a lousy method to mark your house- certainly not the authorities- i surely would ask though as has been suggested- nothing wrong with that- my guess is there might be some construction coming up or something or they marked it for there own purposes- like trees in the forest- hence a bright color would be used- good luck

if your not stealing power nothing to worry about, but its good to notice things like this krunchbubble you'd be surprise at what they do when they see something suspicious there is no reason for this guy to "get out the game"

They may be replacing some that aren't working properly. Are there any others with tape around them in your area?

well my bro works for an electric company and he said they mark the meters when they either need to be replaced or they need to be checked because something screwy is goin on with it. I almost didnt want to post this since the latter doesnt sound so great. But, I also asked him if they ever question an unusual high bill or irregular usage or something and he said "why the hell would we...the higher the bill the better for us" i also live in an area where not too many people grow indoors so its not that much of an issue. I wouldnt sweat it though man... just pull that shit off. Fuck em

well i know for fact that around my place if your screwing with the power they switch some shit on your meter so it gets re checked but like i said if your not stealing then that shit got no meaning.

well it is a new development (i wouldnt say brand new but they just started rebuilding new lots) and they are still building homes around me n the power box is in my backyard so hopefully they are jus marking it to show construction where to tap into power.

thanks to everyone else for your answers as well

No sweat on the elctric tape. kinda gave me a chuckle. no offense. But anyways that tape is just a mark for the service men to check that meter. There is either a problem with it or it just needs a regular check. Nuthin to worry about. They do this everywhere. Also they are not allowed in for any emergency unless givin notice if you are the homeowner. Peace

I just want to add, from my perspective if anything changes on my property I want to know about it. This is my home and castle and I protect is as such. I would have called and asked to find out 'is there any kind of safety problem or why is so and so happening'

But that's just me.
