My aeroponic grow room

The system

The system

The system consists of 4 vertical boxes made of plywood and coated in epoxi marine colour. Inside there are misters, which are povered by high pressure pumps (actually modified high pressure water cleaners). They are mounted on aluminum profiles.

the lighting

the lighting

I have 4 such boxes, the middle two face eachother with the backside, and each has one box facing the front side, so basicaly 2 modules (1 module=2 boxes facing eachother). The boxes are on wheels so they can be easily moved.
Each module is lighted with 3 x 600W in cool tubes, the balasts are in the other room, there is also AC and co2 will be added in flowering

reservoair, feeding, controler

reservoair, feeding, controler

The system is a recirculating one, the feeding schedule is 30s on in 3min intervals. I use 1 120l (with 100l of RO water) reservoair, and 2 high pressure pumps, each covers 1 30 s interval, so even if one breaks down, the plants still get misted every 6 minutes.
Nutrients used are Canna. The intervals, water temp, lights and co2 levels are monitored and adjusted with a home made fully programable controller.
As funny as it will sound I have no clue of the sort I7m growing, they are at least 3 different sorts, but let's try anyway, this is the firs run with this system, so I don7t expect everything to be perfect, but i will try, and I hope to get some help from the members here.

start of the grow

start of the grow

Today is 5 days after the plants were put in the system, this is how the roots look so far:

As you can see from the pictures, there will be a see of green, so I expect max 10-14 days of veg time before flipping to 12/12.

More to foolow as the the plants (hopefully) grow bigger.

this is gonna be one hell of a grow
I've always wanted to compare aero tables turned sideways to my own PVC
aero works way better with room for roots to grow straight down

best of luck -- subscribed!

Well, we shall see how it goes, but there is plenty of room for the roots to grow, the top plants get 1.8m of vertical space, and the bottom row gets 65cm. But it is the first time using this type of set up for me, and altough a lot of tought and planing went into this, there is still a lot that can go wrong. Thanks for good wishes!

gonna keep my eye this one looks like u running a hp aero setup??...i run lp aero with a small res, but been thinking about switching...keep us posted

I was kind of confused about that myself. You say high pressure pumps, does that mean high pressure nozzles as well? I run a 5800 gph 14 amp pump that puts out a hell of a lot of water, but I'm using low pressure nozzles out of convenience.

Are you using an accumulator/solenoid?

From the root pics, they look like mine, i.e.: wet, low-pressure aero roots. HP roots would be fuzzier and would not have water collected on them.

Hey great setup! I had a very similar setup once before.. and even started the same way, in rockwool.
Heads up for ya, the rockwool goes bad in a aeroponic system like this. It starts to collect mold and turns black, not sure why it happens. But I had to keep adding peroxide about every other day towards the end of harvest just to hold the mold back.
If your rockwool starts to turn black, try to rip as much of it off as possible. or the plants start to suffer alot.

End result for me was a heavy hit to the final harvest, only got about half of what I expected to yield.
The system worked great second time around without the rockwool. Just neoprene inserts holding the plants in netpots with large holes.

We will see how it goes, I would also prefer to have no rock wool, but I wasn't able to make my own clones, so I had no choice. For next round I hope it will be different. As far as the pressure: the pressure gauge is showing 12-13 bars of pressure in the system when running the pumps, and the nozzles blow out a fine mist that floats around the room (if you operate them outside of the grow boxes that is, the boxes are completly sealed) So, I'm not sure if that categorizes as a HP or LP system, to me it looks high pressure:) I'm not using any accumulators and solenoids.

hm, have you ever tried dialing back the cycle on your pump? have it kick on for just long enough to spray for about a second or two, then shut off for about 5 min? Sounds like you have the makings of an excellent system, just need to tweak it a little to get the most out of it in terms of root growth.
I'm jealous.

You might want to read my journal to see how I approached it and the changes I made along the way

Hey dude I thought about making something similair.

Could you please post some pictures of the mising nozzles close up, and misting nozzels in relation to the distance from the roots, height, and angle please ?

Also, do you just have bare bulbs floating the middle of them.. more pics please.

Hey theweedman! No the bulbs are in a air cooled tubes, to keep the temps down. I will try to provide some pictures of the nozzles till nextime and explain a little how I did it. Pleas bear in mind that it is the first time for me to build and use such a system, so concider that when trying to decide weather use my approach or not:)

You will se that on one box, the variety is more sativa, and on the other a more indica strain:
