So now I bought a box for dry sifting, a cheapo but I want to experiment a bit before I invest any more. Do you guys grind before sifting or do you just crumble the dry weed with your fingers? When I grind my buds the weed becomes really sticky from the resin which probably isn´t good for sifting. I have some old bud I´d like to use before the new harvest comes in.

I would say grinding it will possibly make for a "less clean" end product though as some extra plant matter might come through...I break up mine loosely..
try small amounts and see what colour sift you get.. you're aiming for blonde not green
p.s once you've tried breaking some up and sifting it... try grinding that same matter and sifting again and compare.. it might be rubbish, but it might be something worth keeping.. you just wont know til you try

yup what he said, a cheap box is fine. I break my weed up for bong & vape hits in this $25.00 box with a nylon screen, cheap.try small amounts and see what colour sift you get.. you're aiming for blonde not green

that sifts is just collected and doled out onto bong hits for me.

I start with full bud as pictured & I manicure it down to what
you see in pics 1 & 2, yeah I slide it back n' forth across the
screen to gather it together and that causes a bit more kief to
sift through, if you're breaking up weed for joints, bowls or a
vaporizer just do it over a kief box.
Have you ever felt that gritty dusty feel on the paper after using
it to clean and roll on? that invisible gritty feeling is kief, gather it.
that cheap box cost me $25 on eBay, use only a plastic card to run
across the screen, it will last you quite awhile, this one's over four
yrs old and has had pounds cleaned over it in that time.......

Good to see "quality equipment". A box of pearls should come free with any bong or sifting gear. Its just the right thing to do. lol, good info, I have wanted to try this my self some time. Never knew about the freezing. Groovy.......
The finished product is great for cooking i just made some peanut butter bon-bons with 20 grams of kief these things will help what hurts or at least make you sleep through it. Some good polished rocks in your box will help the process knocks the stuff right through and it does not stick to the rocks.
Personally I don't smoke kief, I view it more as a raw material for making hash or other concentrates (such as mixing with BHO), it doesn't take more than a few seconds to press and the taste difference for me is immense, I also feel the high/stone is more potent and complex when pressed properly, I only have a few grams at a time so I hand press the higher grades and use a hammer/rolling pin for the more powdery grades.
Trillion: Any advice on making hasch? I´ve seen methods involving baking, ironing, flattening etc but you can hardly do that in a few seconds.Spend £15/$20 on a 20t tshirt screen, along with some tape to keep it in place and maybe a latex glove and some cellophane to press the hash in that is all you need.
Be gentle and quick for the first grade to get best quality when sifting. About 5-15 seconds per handful gently moving it with a plastic card/ your hand when all the trim has been run scrape up the kief, the first grade should turn into dark brown/black hash just by rolling and pressing in your fingers. Repeat being more vigorous each time with the sifting. With good trim I get three grades that are hand pressable and two more powdery dusty grades I hit with a hammer/slam in the door/abuse in a cellophane packet. I don't smoke green hash

here's how I use my kief Piel, I normally just use the tip of
a small knife and put a pinch on top of a bong hit, or I'll dole
some out onto/into a joint my friends rolling, that's it.
When I have an excess amount of kief I use my
pollen press (the aluminum cylinder) to pack it
tight and it stores better for longer periods.
