Most effecient light? According to heat/watt/coverage

I always hear of 600w lights being very effecient for the heat that is put out by them in proportion to area covered/wattage

Do you think it would be cooler to run 2 600w lights or 1 1000w light?

Tell me your horror/learning stories of 600w vs. 1000w

I would definitely run 2 600s over a 1k... You're leaning about 30% more light coverage with the 2 600s, not to mention the more efficient ballast. My room currently has 4 600s on the corners, and a 1k in the middle... 600s are really the way to go

You'll get more from 2 600's than 1 1000 but your using 200 more watts. I only use 1000's but it depends on how big you're going to grow your plants IMO. I personally don't like the footprint on 600's compared to the 1000's.

600w Hortilux @ 88,000 lumens = 146 lumens per watt

1000w Hortilux @ 145,000 lumens = 145 lumens per watt

Somehow I thought the difference was greater than that, I'm open to correction.

Hmmm.. I've only done 600 vert, might be worth trying a flat-run sometime. That Gavita sounds badass. No hood? Sign me up.

you should be able to pull 1p off 1 600, and you should be able to pull 1-1.5p off a 1kw. For the extra 200w's sign me up.

with that gravita...what it has a built in reflector? Its still a reflector that is bouncing light which will lose lumens. Bare bulb is the best way to run if you have the space no matter what anyway.

gavitas dont work with digi ballast from what I've heard, Ushio is another German manufacturer thats very nice and works with digi if thats what you have

I like 600's because you can air cool the fuck out of them and get your tops really close to the bulb. I have my tops about 4" from the glass of my hood. They love it. 1k's are so damn hot.

i always thought the 400w were most efficient per lumen/watt. its kist annoying to have 3 instead of 1 1k. but, i have seen 2 400s crush a 1k, as well. depends on the environment a great deal, as well.

Uh... 2x 400's "crush" a 1k??? Not to fuel this whole dumb wattage argument thing, but I am highly doubting that statement. Of course maybe u've "seen" one of the EXTREMELY rare situations where 2x 400's are better. i.e. 2x 400W name brand digi's vs. 1kw generic/knockoff bulb/coil ballast. Or maybe 2x400's vs. 1KW when BOTH are limited to a 8" thick canopy & a 6x3 footprint (still i might take the 1k on that), or even 2x400's & a killer strain vs. bagseed under a 1k. The fact of the matter is that 400's just don't have the intensity/penetration of a 1k, not to mention there's a big diff between 800 & 1k. Sorry but 2x400's CRUSHING a 1kw, no way.

2 600w lamps placed 18 inche from the canopy will deliver 6 times the usable light of a 1000w placed 2 feet away. make sure u use gas if u decide to blast them with the dual 6"s. the heat and energy will be virtually the same to a 1000w, d
