Local Store Sells Fox Farm OF Soil CHEAP!

These are MSRP prices for FF and you should NEVER pay more than this:

Ocean Forest soil : 18.95 for 1.5 cu/ft bag

Happy Frog soil: 17.95 for 2 cu/ft bag

Grow Big Qt: 16.95 Gal: 52.95

Tiger Bloom Qt: 16.95 Gal 51.95

Big Bloom Qt: 11.95 Gal 39.95 2.5 Gal- 86.95

If you're getting it for less than these prices, I wonder how the guy you buy it from makes a dollar. LOL. 11 bucks for 1.5 cu/ft of OF is outstanding!!!!!!

pay a little more and support your local hydro store. that garden store will be just fine without you. the hydro store will not be.
The local mainstream garden center in Portland was established in 1909 and the local organic farm supply store was established in 1938.

The oldest 'grow store' in Portland is American Agriculture (formerly Halide of Oregon) which was established in 1983. Next up is Light Manufacturing (nee Everybody's Garden Center) also established around that time. With the death of easy credit cards they and their competitors are tossing out 20% discounts with impunity.

I think that the mainstream nurseries and organic farm stores will be able to hold on.

We'll see.

I bought two bags of Ocean Forest on sale Friday for $14 each. Normal price is $18. I noticed they smelled much stronger than normal before opening. Not a bad smell, just allot stronger smell than any of the last 50 or so bags. I just opened one bag and it is definitely different than any other Ocean Forest I have ever seen. I see square root balls throughout the bag. The soil does not seem mixed correctly. It looks as though they may have left out the worm castings and mixed it improperly. Also the soil at the top of the bag where I first opened the bag appeared to have a greenish mold on it. The square root balls make me think this soil may not have the correct nutrients/beneficials. I am very concerned as I have a bunch of girls that needed to be transplanted last night.

Dude...some of us are growing for personal use...others for commercial purposes

(commercial = bad? >>> guess where the weed is coming from if one can't/doesn't want to grow?)

Long story short for many growing is a business just as it is for (local) Hydrostores to sell merchandise, most of them are around for the profit and not for doing us a favor.

The definition for "Business" is rather complicated but for most it boils down to:

A commercial activity engaged in as a means of livelihood or profit, ... .

Profit?

The positive gain from an investment or business operation after subtracting for all expenses.

That means buy the quality and quantity you want for a price enabling a max yield.

And the above does not necessarily include supporting someone (i.e. Hydrostore) who is there for the profit as well (just as many growers are).

Took your advice and went to Foxfarm site. Found a place only 3 miles from work. Currently I drive 40 miles to get FFOF.

hahaha, support your local store, thats hilarious. i admire your magnanimity. however, most of us would be happy to drive to the gas station down the block to save 1 penny per gallon of gas. so, its a safe bet that same person would also skip the neighborly courtesy to save 30%+ in cost of virtually every product sold by a local hydro shop vs wallyworld.

i happen to love my hydro shop, u kno you are in the right place when every object purchased is preceded by the sales lady checking her pricing catalog just 'to make sure' she's making a few dollars. i appreciate that sort of honesty & candor in a storefront, but its a rare commodity indeed in business; honesty, that is. but, as for directing an entire forum to support a local hydro shop without good reason/justification beyond them Needing our money is absurd. if you own a grow shop, i wish you luck. nobody's walking through any door b/c they think its the right thing to do. they open the door expecting great service, honest prices & advice, & righteous products backed by righteous people. far too many grow shops have absentee owners who hire young hot women or skateboarder's ( o hold no prejudice against either) who know nothing about horticulture beyond the dynamics of working the price gun & register. ok, im done now.

Yeah i like my local hydro store staff, but the prices are ridiculous and they mostly seem to prey on new growers, ive seen people coming in to buy a a few things, to be talked into buying a car full of advanced nute lines and supplements

yea, i guess Anikas, it just really is almost the luck of the draw, as with any & most businesses. i hate to ever generalize, but it is true. we all know of good & bad mcdonald's to even doctors. so, i think it just brings it home & hurts so many of us here at IC b/c we are, for the most part (I'd like to think or hope), kinder & more gentle-hearted & peaceful folk. so, when a grow shop rapes so many consumers who can barely afford CFLs sometimes, it really just is abominable & disgusting.

OP, i apologize for getting off topic. I love & use FFOF & LW, i wish I could have paid those kind of prices. I paid $15 for 1.5cb/ft of the OF & $19 for the LW & felt happy doing so.
