Changing between HPS and MH during flower???

What I want to know is when can I run a CMH on a digital 400w ballast the shit makes no sense to me that they work on HPS ballast's being a MH and yet they don't work on ballast's that are for HPS/MH WTF!!!! Anyone else waiting for this to happen or have any info on the subject? I think a CMH bulb is the way to go over a HPS what do you all think?

CMH was designed as a "retrofit" bulb for old HPS installations, I believe, not designed or marketed for horticulture...I don't think there are any digital ballasts that are recommended for use with CMH, if you want CMH get a core and coil 400w HPS ballast. You can sometimes find them really cheap on craigslist, or get a kit from HTG.

Love this thread, great info! until I get some electric bugs worked out i'm just using an HPS (small grow) I like the explanations of when different spectrums are most useful. Very enlightning.

I run 2 1000's 1 hps & 1 MH. In magnum xxl hoods. So most of the plants are recieving full scectrum all the time. It's prolly not the most efficent but I get 1# per light and the quality is fantastic.

I came to that conclusion a few years ago. I then switched to Hortilux Super Eye.....I think that is correct It was and still is the best bulb I have every used. It has a balanced Spectrum.

In the EU I am using GIB lighting Super Spectrum think it does good but I would ike to get more balanced so I picked up a switchable ballast.

i would get one of those but i dont think they do them belwo 400watts.

i have swapped between MH and HPS a few times recently and the plants certainly dont seem to mind. the cheese i harvested after a week or so of MH seems a bit more aromatic and resinous.

now finally i have my CMH and it has gone in. it really looks like daylight which must be a good sign.

check out this shot - the CMH really looks like sunshine shining from the left :)

I run in the 6k range and every flower room has both mh and hps, and all but one has equal wattage for each.

I used to just swap out bulbs every week when I was closet growing for a while. one week mh one week hps, always started flower in mh and then transitioned to the one week of each.

plants seem to look better with exposure to both.

yep VG any results yet? some people have mentioned UV so, is it that the MH have more UV , or just the broad spectrum.. Im thinking of supplementing the HPS system Im planning to get with some 6500K CFL or UV, but Imnot sure if 1800lm of 6500K would do any difference

in nature, the light intensity fades as season progresses...
just sayin'.

makes more sense to use MH at the front end of grow and HPS to finish.
just a stoners opinion tho...

my thoughts exactly, if people claim it increases trich production then wouldnt it be more beneficial to either swap between hps and mh during all of flower or to at least leave mh at beginning of flower when most trichs are being formed? hope verdant green can chime in and let us know his results from way back when
