Purple Kush-How long to flower?

Here are some pics of purple kush from Holistic Nursery in SD. I know they're super short and busy, this was my first grow ever since my step father grew back in 92, I was 14. I didn't let these veg long enough at all but the buds still look like they'll be sweeet!

How long on average should I flower these for? These pics are at about 6 weeks of 12/12. I just don't want to screw it up, they smell amazing! I'm also knew to this forum so I appreciate anyone taking the time to tell a rookie where to find some info on

1. How long to flower until harvest, I know there's not set time, but what to look for, recommendations etc.

2. How do I cure/dry them so I don't screw that up

Again, I am more than willing to put in the leg work and read and study and learn, just need to be pointed in the right direction, or if you know any of these answers please share, as I promise to share my knowledge gained with anyone in the future. Thanks and happy trails....

Hey there and welcome to the forum :) What's your growing medium? Plants tend to mature faster in hydro then they do in soil or other medium. It's all too easy to say "let them go at least until the trichs have begun to turn amber and probably until a good third have actually turned amber" but you'll need to flush a week to ten days before that time so I suppose you'll need some specific advise there. I've never grown PK so I don't know straight off the bat but hang about and I'm sure someone with more knowledge regarding this awesome strain will come along and help you out.

With regards to the drying/curing .... I can't think of a better thread to help you with than this one - http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=156237 It's a fantastic thread with lots of extremely helpful info. Good luck.

Alf.

Thanks Alflud! Also, to clarify, the "Trichs" or trichomes are the hairs right? The little hairy things that some are amber some are still white? Thanks, they smell awesome! Can't wait to sample.

hey animal.....trichomes are not the hairs. those are called pistils...the trichs are what many people call the 'crystals' or the whitish looking frost on the buds and big parts of the fan leaves. hope that helps....meatsnack out...

Trichs are the glandular trichome heads that contain the essential oils that we love so much! Depending on the strain and your preference will tell you when to harvest. You should get a jewelers loupe or something similar (Mine is 30x mag) to look at your trichs. Many people will harvest when 30 percent of the trichs are amber and most of the rest are cloudy. If they are clear it means they are not ready and the best advice I can give to newer growers is that if you think it is done, wait an extra week to harvest!

I suggest you do a lot more reading, knowledge is power! Also, what works for one person will not always work for you, good luck!

:D ohhhhh - you won't know yourself smoking your own awesome bud!!!! There's nothing like it. It's one of the most fulfilling things ever. I've never smelled the PK but I've only ever heard awesome things about it. Way to go.

The trichomes are the 'frost' that develops on the leaves and buds - not the little hairs that turn red after a while. Here, have a look in this thread - http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=153734 - it's the photo of the year thread. Have a look at pic number 5 - Bubblemans Afghanica - it's an excellent close-up photo of trichomes. Also, in the background is an excellent close-up look at a calyx - those little white hairs you mentioned.

Now have a look at pic number 2 - Mr. Bongjangles Geisha - you can still make out the trichomes and you can also see the calyxes which have turned red. I hope this clarifies things for ya but if you're still not clear be sure to say :)

The trichomes are a two-part structure consisting of the 'stem' and the 'gland' and it's in those glands - the spherical portion at the top - that the resin is produced. With time the resin inside those glands turns cloudy and then amber. If you let your plant go too far and allow all the glands to become amber you will miss out on a lot of THC but then there are some people who prefer to do this.

The fluid turns amber as the THC breaks down into other cannabinoids like CBD - something which you will still get stoned on but it gives more of a body stone than a head high if you know what I mean - and some people prefer this to the head high. With this in mind and considering what type of effect you would prefer you can decide when you will want to harvest.

If you're going for the head high then harvest when about a quarter to a third of the visible trichs have turned amber. You can be fairly certain then that THC production has peaked and not too much of it has broken down into other cannabinoids.

Seen 'em do well as early as 60 but I think ~65 is better for potency.

Here are a few pics of my PK, first grow ever, not bad for a first shot, I def didn't let them veg long enough but I did get a microscope to check the trich's, they're at about 8 1/2 weeks and 90% or more of the trich's are still clear, is that normal, just hope i'm not doing something wrong.

I've been using pure water only for the past 10 days as well, they're looking great to me, any input you all have is much appreciated.

Did I completely fuck these up? Also I added some oxygenator, do I still add that when I flush with pure water or leave that out?
