Cal Mag plus with nutes = high ppm

I just transplanted rooted clones into 1 gal grow bags filled with coco/perlite. Im using the rezdog recipe at half strength in ro water, ph balanced out to 5.5-5.7. When I add the cal mag (1tsp per gal) the ppm went from 600 to 1050.

I diluted with more ro water to get back down to 600. This is my first coco run and also my first time using cal mag plus. Im guessing the CAL MAG instructions are way too much. What would of happen if I didnt dilute and watered my newly transplanted clones?

clones can take nutes full strength from day 1 of veg.

My clones can't take it full strength. I will burn them if full strength till in 1 gal pots. But I am in soil.

I use cal mag at 100 ml for 25 gals of nutes in veg and do not have a problem. Maybe try that ratio of ml per gal/liter?

that's a shitload of Calcium in that mix. Even diluted, the ratio is out of whack.

I think you could cause a magnesium deficiency using it.

Wait...What?

if you have a problem with 5ml cal-mag+, 0/6/9, it isn't the strength of the mix.
on edit: in coco, hand watering from the top once daily, as specified in both the ===recipe=== thread and h3ad's thread.

i went as high as 10ml cal-mag+ and it gave me some eagle claw leaves. 5-7ml works best, in my experience.

I think 5ml (1 tsp) of CalMag only bumps up my ppm by 200 or so. I'll check again tonight.

I'm only at 480 ppm total w/ 1gal Distilled H20 (5 ppm) + 9ml Bloom + 5ml CalMag + 5ml Hygrozyme.

agreed.

As an aside, after a few weeks of veg I find that with Canna nutrients its use becomes unnecessary as there line has plenty of Ca/Mg already (depending on your water source as well).

I've never measured my ppm, I just watch the growth of the plants to see what they need.

I've also not used the "made up" nutrient regiments. I used the two part coco specific system from Canna.

I used 15ml A, 15ml B, and 15ml Cal-Mag+ per gallon at every watering (day 1, day 6, day 10, and every 2 days after that). My plants LOVE life, I'm not sure what my ppm would have been but I don't think cal-mag+ is an issue.

I've had some problems now in flowering and since I've switched to SensiBloom two part. I've just recently cut my Cal-Mag+ down to about 8ml per gallon as I've had some single bladed claw leaves poke up.

Calcium and Magnesium need to be high in coco than in any other system because of the cation exchange capacity. I'm not entire solid on the science right now but my experience with 15ml cal-mag+ per gallon has been very good.

I guess it depends on your particular meter but I get ~150 ppm increase (.5 scale) with 1 tsp per gallon. What's that compare to EC, 0.3?

The OP was running Half Strength H3ad / Rezipe (3 ml grow + 4.5 bloom) + 5 ml calmagplus

Unless my calculations are off on a PPM basis, that's approximately 75 N - 30 P - 53 K - 38 Mg - 92 Calcium

I have never heard of anyone feeding more calcium than any other nutrient on a daily basis even in 100% coco, but if it works for some of you, more power to you.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I really dont know what exactly happen to get that ppm high. 1 tsp per gal = 5ml per gal. I redid the res this morning and used cal mag 3ml per gal with the rez recipe at 1/2 strength and the ppm went up to 800.

Sucks wasting all that cal mag and gh though. :wtf:

yeah good thing its cheap, at least you didn't pour a bottle of boost or rhizo down the drain by accident, then you'd be really pissed. :violin:

stay safe, stay strong

this was probably bad advice. i regret the post

Im pretty sure 10mL/Gal of Cal-Mag+ added 0.8ec to my mix (I did this test years ago)(The PBP series was all 0.7ec). No one knows what your 'ppm' scale is.

What ppm scale are you going by? At .7 scale 5ml cal mag should bump you about 200 ppm. I have RO water that checks out at 6 or 7ppm and i have to use 5ml of calmag or else I'll see mag problems. By 3-4 weeks flower i'll either do half dose or every other watering and by the next week i'll drop it completely.During Veg in coco using 6/9 recipe with RO water calmag is a must IMO.

sorry i must correct me my ro water is 0,09 ms/cm

and normally add cal up to 0,29 ms/cm and

mag up to 0,39 ms/cm (only by a tip) and want to know its right or no

i dont use ro water for a long time in my new house its impossible to use normal water
