Canadian actor and '80s heartthrob Corey Haim died Wednesday morning from a possible drug overdose, TMZ.com is reporting.
The website says the Los Angeles police were called to St. Joseph's hospital in Burbank, Calif., shortly before 4 a.m. PT.
KTLA-TV says Haim, 38, was found unresponsive in his Oakwood apartment, located between Burbank and the Hollywood Hills. He was at home with his mother at the time.
Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the coroner's office told the TV station an autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.
Haim, who was born in Toronto on Dec. 23, 1971, and had returned to the city recently, had previously admitted to drug use. In media interviews in 2007, he admitted to popping up to 85 pills a day.
TMZ.com reports he may have suffered a drug-induced stroke in 2001 and was rushed to UCLA Medical Centre. He was also in and out of rehab up to 15 times.
Haim was perhaps best known for his movie roles in The Lost Boys and License to Drive. He also starred with Corey Feldman in a reality TV show called The Two Coreys. It aired for two seasons on A&E from 2007 to 2008.
The Internet Movie Database website (IMDB.com) says Haim was about to start working on five movies including directing The Throwaways and starring with Mischa Barton in The Science of Cool.
